Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Breastfeeding Peer Helper (BPH) is a member of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) team. The BPH is a paraprofessional support person responsible for providing basic, evidence-based breastfeeding education and anticipatory guidance to pregnant WIC participants in an effort to help families make informed infant feeding decisions. Additionally, the BPH offers ongoing encouragement and mother-to-mother support through pregnancy and after birth to assist WIC participants with navigating concerns and meeting their breastfeeding goals. The BPH promotes breastfeeding in the community, workplace and the broader healthcare system through collaboration with other WIC staff and community partners.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience breastfeeding (nursing and/or pumping) at least one baby for a minimum of six (6) months
- Current or former WIC participant
- Enthusiasm about breastfeeding and a desire to support other mothers in having a positive breastfeeding experience
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Strong organizational skills, analytical thinking abilities and attention to detail, as well as the ability to work independently and to meet deadlines
- Knowledge of public health laws, regulations and standards
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Must successfully pass background check
- Must possess a valid Ohio driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Must be able to provide proof of automobile insurance
- COVID-19 vaccination or eligibility for medical or religious exemption required
- NOTE: An individual who poses a direct threat to the health and safety of others in the workplace will be deemed not qualified for this position.

Pay: $18.04 - $25.26 per hour
Expected hours: 16 – 20 per week
