We are seeking a dynamic candidate to join the Primary Health Solutions team as a WIC Breastfeeding Peer Helper that will work with our WIC team.

A day in the life of a WIC Breastfeeding Peer Helper:

Customer Service:

  • Provides information and support to breastfeeding mothers in managing common maternal and infant breastfeeding problems that may occur.
  • Provides information and support to pregnant women to encourage and support their decision to breastfeed their infants.
  • Provides support and information to pregnant and breastfeeding WIC mothers by telephone or in person at scheduled intervals determined by the WIC Program and Peer Helper policy and procedure.
  • Completes documentation accurately and in a timely manner on all contacts with pregnant and nursing mothers as indicated in the WIC and Peer Helper policy and procedure.
  • Refers (“YIELD”) pregnant and breastfeeding mothers to the designated WIC CLC according to the WIC Peer Helper Referral Policy and Procedure.
  • Participates in the breastfeeding support group and other WIC classes, projects and events.

Operations:

  • Attends monthly WIC staff meetings, breastfeeding conferences/workshops, and training as appropriate.

Requirements:

Success Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have exclusively breastfed one baby for 6 months.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Intermediate technical skills in a variety of software programs to include Microsoft products, current practice management program and electronic medical record.
