Description:The Braider personnel are tasked with the responsibility of setting up and operating multiple braiding machines used in the insulating and shielding of wire and cable.  This individual is responsible for reading and comprehending detailed technical instructions, choosing, and installing the proper tooling and gears to achieve optimum quality and efficiency.   This individual will have solid mechanical aptitude and average to above average manual dexterity.

Essential Job Functions:                             

  • Perform all department paperwork. This would include but not be limited to, reel tags, run sheets, quality sheets and interpretation of op-sheets and other work instructions.
  • Be able to enter all work performed into the electronic production log, and other related ERP / MRP systems that we have.  Additionally, this individual will be able to effectively utilize the email and work order system to interact with management, engineering and maintenance as needed.
  • The employee should be able to read and accurately record measurements taken from micrometers and other precision measuring devices including but not limited to; laser micrometers, calipers, diameter tapes and the like.
  • This individual must have a moderate to high level of mechanical aptitude as all of our manufacturing positions require a significant amount of operator attentiveness and intervention.
  • The employee must be both quality and safety conscious. Additionally consistent with both preceding behaviors, housekeeping and customer presentation are a high priority in all of our work areas.

Knowledge and/or Physical Requirements:

  • Individual must be able to stand for extended period of time, typically 75 - 90% of their shift, depending on the assigned work area. 
  • Individual must be able to periodically lift and / or move up to fifty pounds during the course of their shift. Employee must be able to utilize hearing protection, safety glasses or any necessary PPE as it pertains to the assigned work environment.
  • Ability to see small defects and differentiate colors during in-process quality control procedures.
  • Individuals need to be flexible and prepared to work a variety of work schedules. This could include any combination of off shift and / or weekend hours as assigned.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and effectively demonstrate a strong understanding of the English language. Our entire customer and engineering data is published in the English language.
  • Oral Expression – The ability to communicate their thoughts and information so that others will understand.
  • The employee working in this position reports to the shift supervisor based on shift assignment.
  • Ability to perform basic math function (add, subtract, multiply and divide) on various units of measures.
  • Ability to apply basic math functions to whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  • Apply data and situational analysis to make sound judgment on operational procedures.
  • Ability to make appropriate decision in regard to problem solving, machine set up and product quality.
  • Requires high manual dexterity and fine motor skills in both hands

Environment:

  • Work is primarily indoors in a climate-controlled office and manufacturing area; noise level is quiet to moderate. Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, vibration, and hazards.

Required Education and Experience:

  • High school graduate with a minimum of 1 year direct industrial experience is preferred. Education and work experience can be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
