Job Summary:
The Student Life & Engagement Manager is a student-facing position that provides direct support to students and student organizations, and connects them with the Office of Career and Professional Development and other Law School resources and departments. Under the direction of the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, this position is responsible for creating, implementing, and assessing a robust Student Life experience through Law School activities, programming, and events; fostering students' engagement with the Law School; and developing students' leadership skills.
The Student Life & Engagement Manager serves as the primary point of contact in the administration for all Law School student organizations and co-curricular activities, and works closely with other Law School departments, especially the Office of Career and Professional Development, External Affairs, and the Academic Enhancement Program, to collaborate on student-led events. This position advises student organizations and co-curricular activities to ensure student-led events and activities are compliant with Law School, University, and State policies. The Student Life & Engagement Manager keeps all documentation, websites, and policies current with respect to student organizations. This position may be required to work evenings and weekends on occasion to attend student-facing events.
The Student Life & Engagement Manager works with the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, the Associate Dean for DEI and other student-facing departments to identify students who may need additional professional, academic, or other resources, and supports and directs students to such resources. This position will serve on the Student Experience Team, which is a group of staff who has high contact with students and addresses issues affecting student well-being and/or particular students of concern.
The Student Life & Engagement Manager provides administrative and programmatic support to the JD Grants Committee, which provides funding to JD students, student organizations, and co-curricular activities. This position serves at the primary point of contact for students with questions about the JD Grants funding process.
The Student Life & Engagement Manager assists with and may manage the planning and execution of events hosted by the Student Affairs Office, including but not limited to: 1L Orientation, LEO Orientation, 2nd semester 1L Orientation, student organization and co-curricular activity workshops, student leadership trainings, and wellness programming.
The ultimate goal of the Student Life & Engagement Manager is to ensure all students find a sense of belonging and connection to Wisconsin Law and have positive interactions with the Law School administration, which will lead to better student and alumni engagement with various Law School departments.
Responsibilities:
Oversees the daily management of programs, services, activities, facilities, policies and/or processes in order to support student success in various areas of student affairs. Works under broad, administrative direction with significant responsibility for assigned area(s) of responsibility. Responds to inquiries from University departments, educational institutions, the community, and/or external agencies. Strives to create a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive work environment.- 30% Plans, organizes, administers, and manages processes and operations related to assigned area(s) of responsibility
- 20% Monitors, evaluates, and modifies processes, procedures, and/or standards, ensuring alignment with the Institution's mission, values, goals, and objectives, as well as all local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
- 25% Advises and enforces Institution policies related to services in Student Affairs
- 10% Serves as the program or unit liaison to internal and external stakeholder groups
- 10% Schedules logistics and secures resources to support the operational plans of the program or unit
- 5% May monitor the program budget and approve expenditures

Demonstrated ability to exercise excellent and independent judgment.
Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Experience working with diverse populations in a customer service, client, or student facing role.
Strong computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office and Google Suite; ability to learn other software as needed.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Comfortable with and enthusiastic about collaborating with students, student groups, and colleagues.
Demonstrated strategic and innovative approach to problem solving.
Preferred:
Multiple years experience in student-facing higher-education roles or as an attorney.
Experience with UW-Madison policies and procedures.
Experience with event planning.
Experience with building a program or taking ownership of a new initiative.

Starting salary will be determined by previous experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
