BRIDGE – Building Relationships, Inclusivity, Diversity, Growth, and Excellence 

WWF’s diversity-focused internship program, BRIDGE, aims to recruit professionals early in their careers who bring fresh thinking and innovation to the environmental and conservation sector and are well positioned to develop into the next generation of leaders. Our mission is to increase exposure of students from underrepresented populations to conservation and environmental careers, provide professional development opportunities, reduce the barriers to attracting a diverse pool of internship candidates, and develop a pipeline for future WWF hires from underrepresented populations. 

 

Position Summary 

In this role, a BRIDGE intern would help the Media & External Affairs (MXA) team support WWF’s Nature Breaking podcast focused on news and trends affecting our natural world, and the people and species that call it home. This show helps listeners make sense of today’s big environmental headlines by showcasing the incredible array of experts at WWF. Additionally, in collaboration with the Fundraising Innovations team, this intern would help to develop and implement our VIP streamer engagement strategy. They would work to identify, perhaps even help recruit, and build relationships with influential streamers and content creators who are passionate about environmental work. This position will help us expand our reach and impact in the digital space all the while gaining experience in influencer engagement and marketing. 


  • Help the MXA team to produce its bi-weekly podcast. 
  • Duties would include helping with preparation for recording sessions, editing audio tracks after episodes are recorded, and developing social media content to help promote each episode once it is released.Help the MXA team – in collaboration with the Fundraising Innovations team – develop and implement our VIP streamer engagement strategy. 
  • Duties would be to identify, perhaps even help recruit, and build relationships with influential streamers and content creators who are passionate about environmental work.  

Minimum Requirements:  

  • Pursuing an Associate’s or Bachelor’s program in digital media, multimedia journalism or production, public relations, communications, or environmental science and technology. Those studying outside these areas are still highly encouraged to apply. Must be an actively enrolled student and not received degree at time of internship start date (June 17, 2024).

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Specific Softwares to be familiar with, but may not be required 
  • Audacity or Descript for sound 
  • Canva or Adobe Suite for visual and social graphics 
  • PodChaser for analytics 
  • Twitch and/or software including Streamlabs or OBS 

 

Learning Outcomes 

 

  • Understanding PR practices: Gain knowledge about public relations strategies and tactics, including media relations, content creation, and audience targeting. 
  • Multimedia production skills: Develop proficiency in various multimedia production techniques, such as audio recording, editing, podcast hosting, and distribution. 
  • Content creation: Learn how to create engaging and informative content for podcasts, including scriptwriting, interviewing, storytelling, and editing. 
  • Project management: Gain experience in managing and organizing the podcast production process, including planning, scheduling, and coordinating with team members and guests. 
  • Collaboration and communication: Enhance collaboration skills by working closely with the PR team, podcast guests, and other stakeholders to coordinate and deliver podcast episodes effectively. 
  • Research and analysis: Learn how to conduct research and analysis to identify relevant topics, industry trends, and target audience preferences for podcast content creation. 

 

WWF interns will be provided a set of professional development opportunities, aimed at increasing their exposure to conservation and sustainability careers. This includes: 

 

  • Development discussions with their manager; 
  • Up to two online courses through Cornell University’s eCornell program; 
  • Speed mentoring with different WWF teams; 
  • Opportunity to present their work to intern peers and WWF staff; 
  • Session on resume and interviewing best practices. 

 

Interns will also have access to an array of networking opportunities. This includes meetings with WWF’s CEO, the senior management team, Employee Resource Groups, and representatives from other departments.

US-DC-Washington  

 

Compensation: 

Paid - $17 per hour (full-time, 35 hours per week) 

 

Internship Dates: 

Internship will run from June 17, 2024 to August 23, 2024
