Job description

Position Summary:


This person will perform the inspection and packing of all types of containers, which are manufactured at the facility under the direction of the Production Supervisor or an assigned person. You may also operate other downstream equipment under the direction of the Production Supervisor or an assigned person (see below for specific job duties). Assist in the coaching of lower level Bottle Packers regarding good company/packing practices (see below for specific job duties).


Education, Training Experience:


High school graduate or equivalent GED, and a demonstrated ability to read, write, and follow verbal and written instructions in the English language.

NOTE: EMPLOYEES HIRED AS TRAINEES WHO DO NOT HAVE A HIGH SCHOOL EDUCATION MAY NOT QUALIFY FOR PROMOTION AND SHOULD PURSUE THEIR GED.


Special equipment or other requirements:


  • Must complete 3-5 training classes, pertaining to job classification, within 90 days. These classes will be pre-arranged by Parker Plastics (if applicable).
  • Must have completed any Parker Plastics training or certification program for this level.
  • Requires constant visual attention, ability to discern flaws in containers.
  • Bottle Packers must have positive attendance points to continue cross training program.
  • Must be able to pack at a high rate of speed (fastest machine) and instruct others in the packing of quality product in a timely manner.

Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Can volunteer or be assigned to assist and/or be a backup in the Food Safety Programs.
  • Can volunteer or be assigned to assist and/or be a backup in the employee Safety Program.
  • Assists in maintaining at a high degree of cleanliness in the production area in accordance with Third Party regulations.
  • Help maintain general housekeeping by keeping your area clean and clear of clutter.
  • Package bottle according to customer’s specifications.
  • Help ensure high quality by visually inspecting bottles for defects, in accordance with plant quality improvement procedures.
  • Make cartons for the packaging of the finished bottles or assist other co-workers in the making and bagging of cartons.
  • Ensure that glue or tape is applied properly to the cartons.
  • Grind bottles not meeting minimum quality standards (if applicable).
  • Remove contaminates from bottles before grinding (if applicable).
  • Maintain a high degree of cleanliness in the production area.
  • Clear jams on downstream equipment and restart.
  • Housekeeping requirements in accordance with Third Party regulations.
  • Assist co-workers where needed and/or be assigned additional tasks within this job classification and/or below classifications.


Physical Activity Required:


CLIMBING: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs and equipment, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Needs good body agility.

STOOPING: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at waist. This requires the full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.

KNEELING: Bending legs at knee to come to rest on knee(s).

CROUCHING: Bending body downward and forward by bending legs and spine.

REACHING: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.

STANDING: Standing for sustained periods of time.

WALKING: Moving over long distances to accomplish tasks.

PUSHING: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.

PULLING: Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.

LIFTING: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position.

GRASPING: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.

FEELING: Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, thickness, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin.

FINGERING: Picking, pinching, or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm.

HEARING: Perceiving the nature of sounds with no less than 40 dB at 500Hz, 100 Hz, and 2000 Hz with or without correction. Must be able to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make fine discriminations in sound, such as when making fine adjustments on machine parts.

REPETITIVE

MOTION: Substantial movements of the arms, hands and/or fingers.


Visual Acuity and Field of Vision Requirements:


Must be capable of seeing small defects in bottles at a distance close to the eyes.


Physical Requirements:
MEDIUM WORK


Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must be able to lift up to 30 – 35 pounds above head frequently, and 35 – 40 pounds occasionally.


Environmental Working Conditions:


  • The worker is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions.
  • The worker is subject to extreme heat, above 100 degrees for a period of one (1) or more hours.
  • The worker is subject to noise.
  • The worker is subject to vibrations. Exposure to oscillating movements of the extremities or whole body.
  • The worker is subject to being exposed to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, chemicals, etc.
  • The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions, i.e. fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases or poor ventilation.
  • The worker is subject to oils. Air and/or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids.
