The Portland Water Bureau is a seeking qualified candidateto join them as a Botanic Technician I - Seasonal/Casual (Community Service Aide II)!


About the Position
Job Appointment: Casual/Seasonal.


This position is identified as one that performs Professional and Technical Employees, Local 17 (PROTEC17) body of work similar to that of a Botanic Technician I. This position will be temporarily placed into the classification of Community Service Aide II (CSA II) and then converted to a PROTEC17 classification once it has been identified.


Community Service Aide (CSA II) positions have a maximum of 1,400 hours in a calendar year.


Work Location:

The role will report to work at Sandy River Station, located near the confluence of the Bull Run and Sandy rivers in Sandy (adjacent to Dodge Park). The address is: 10991 SE Lusted Road, Sandy, OR 97055

Work Schedule: This role will work approximately two to three days per week, within a range of 16-30 hours per week. This position may be year-round ormay have a break during the months of December and January depending on the workload.

Benefits: This role may receive holiday and sick leave depending on their work schedule and hours worked. This position is not eligible for vacation, or service credit. The position may qualify for medical coverage under the federal Affordable Health Care Act (ACA). Position Summary


The Portland Water Bureau seeks a qualified candidate to assist in the collection of field data and invasive plant control. The Botanical Technician will work under the direction of Water Bureau Resource Protection staff. This role will focus on invasive plant surveys and control, vegetation restoration efforts, GIS data entry, and other duties as assigned. The position will primarily work independently, with some occasional team-setting work. The candidate may be cross-trained to perform other duties, such as conducting fish surveys or collecting other biological field. The Bureau prefers that the applicants are able and willing to perform:
  1. Data recording and record keeping
  2. Native and invasive plant identification
  3. invasive plant removal
  4. Assistance with vegetation restoration efforts
  5. Use of GIS/GPS in tracking and locating plant populations
The Botanic Technician I will be expected to operate a City of Portland vehicle. This role may be required to work during inclement weather conditions and must have the physical ability to walk over uneven or steep terrain.
Once hired, this role will be required to obtain and maintain an herbicide applicators license through the Oregon Department of Agriculture.

The following minimum qualifications are required for these positions:


1. Ability to effectively and safely navigate and work in remote, outdoor areas in all weather conditions. Some of this work may be on uneven terrain.


2. Knowledge and ability to operate City utility vehicles in natural areas, parks, and roadways


3. Ability to track multiple organizational processes during a workday (i.e. multiple mapping protocols and procedures for working in the Bull Run Watershed Management Unit)

4. Experience working collaboratively in a diverse team environment.

5. Ability and knowledge of standard office operating procedures, such as basic computer usage, typing, filing, and customer service
