Bookmobile Driver Assistant

The Bookmobile Driver Assistant works closely with the Bookmobile Librarian to drive, operate, and maintain the Bookmobile, making stops at schools, daycares, and senior centers. Attention to detail and excellent driving skills are a MUST. This position is required to occasionally drive the Bookmobile, a 25-foot vehicle. A CDL is NOT required.

Job Summary:

This position involves assisting in the daily operation of the Bookmobile library, planning of special activities, customer service to library users by checking materials in and out, handling customer accounts and fee transactions, responding to customer inquiries, and communication and cooperation with the Emerson Library.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent required. The driving skills to handle the Bookmobile, mechanical knowledge of the vehicle, and relevant library experience desirable.

• Operate the Bookmobile without daily supervision, pay attention to detail, and exercise sound independent judgment.
• Assist in planning and executing programs for special occasions.
• Requires physical agility and strength to bend, reach, lift and carry (up to 25 lbs), and push/pull loaded book carts when shelving materials.

Essential Duties:

• Be a collaborative team member, sharing responsibility for building supervision, working towards ensuring the proper maintenance and organization of the library and its collections, and in helping the library provide a welcoming, comfortable, and safe place for the community.
• Provide prompt, knowledgeable and courteous service in answering circulation, directional, basic reference questions, handling telephone calls and routing messages.
• All of the following circulation functions: checking in and out library materials, renewing items, contacting patrons for holds, collecting fines and fees, placing hold requests for patrons, registering patrons in an accurate and timely fashion and performing routine library computer functions.
• Doing one’s part to help maintain proper organization of the library, including shelving items in the proper place and order, shelf reading to insure the collection’s accuracy, and processing hold, recall and loan transactions for branch libraries.
• Drive Bookmobile, which makes several stops throughout Wood County every two weeks and deliver materials to nursing homes and other locations with library van.
• Perform routine maintenance on Bookmobile and oversee major repairs.
• Clean and repair library materials as needed.
• Required to perform all other duties as assigned.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $14.50 - $15.00 per hour

Expected hours: 15 – 18 per week
