Job: Bookkeeper / Controller
Location: Virtual
Pay Range: $70k – $135k DOE
Next generation, fast paced, Biomanufacturing startup looking for experienced, detail-oriented individual to serve as an accounting department of one, get QBO up to date, generate invoices, process payroll and assist with all financial tracking systems in the business.

We are seeking an experienced, organized, meticulous accountant to join our energetic, multidisciplinary team. Title can range from full-charge Bookkeeper to Controller, depending upon the experience level of the successful candidate. This position is a full-time, virtual position and reports to the CEO. Must be based in the U.S. and able to work 8 am-5 pm Pacific Time

Background on the company and position:
The company is led by a technically oriented team - five of our senior team members have PhDs in STEM. We put the safety and well-being of our people above all other priorities. We love to track and measure. We use a software called Asana to collaborate, monitor project progress, allocate tasks and communicate across different shifts and locations. We follow detailed standard operating procedures for all research testing, plant operations, and business operations. We keep detailed timecards. We have meticulous naming and version control policies for all electronic files. We record and thoroughly analyze all data and are in constant pursuit to find the best and most efficient way to get things done. We work hard and always seek to work smart.
Mango is in growth mode. Scale-up of this type is a process with many unknowns and surprises, and this position will have the opportunity to support scaling a first-of-its kind technology. We are looking for someone to join us on this adventure with an open mind and enthusiasm to get into details. A glass half-full, positive attitude is a must!
The mission of this position is to ensure financials are up to date, accurate, and presentable. Payroll, accounts payable and receivable are all executed accurately and timely. All accounting records are continuously updated.
The Bookkeeper / Controller will be expected to:
- Perform accrual accounting and other related duties for the organization.
- Provide accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial statements
- Reconcile general ledger
- Manage Company credit cards and process all AP and AR invoices
- Run bi-weekly payroll through BambooHR (formerly TRAX) and track PTO
- Coordinate ongoing benefits, insurance coverage and tax filings
- Support budgeting process and all external audits
- Maintain all records according to Mango Materials’ protocols
Our ideal candidate is/has/can:
- Work independently with little direction as an accounting department of one
- Experience managing all bookkeeping/accounting responsibilities, including: AR, AP, monthly & yearly close, insurance & tax filings, and payroll
- QuickBooks online experience
- 4-10+ year’s accounting, bookkeeping and/or controller experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, CPA or equivalent certifications and experience
- Advanced Excel skills
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Detail oriented
- Excellent at following written instructions
- Highly organized
- Ability to follow and recommend systems
Nice to haves:
- Prior Start-up experience
- Experience with BambooHR
- Experience in manufacturing
- Experience with Bill.com and Expensify
- Experience creating PowerPoint presentations
- Inventory accounting experience
