Job description

Job Summary: 

Responsible to support the Auto Body Shop Manager in his/her role to increase overall efficiency, profitability, and reputation of our auto Body Shop operations. The Assistant Manager carries out our mission of 'service first' in support of the quality, timeliness, and fashion in which auto body repair services are performed and ultimately delivered to our valued clientele. Acting in the capacity of 'second in charge’, he/she helps the Manager carry out daily operations of the auto body department according to policy and procedures. From work orders to warranty work, he/she consistently helps optimize customer value and profitability for the department. The Assistant Manager is responsible to carry out objectives, assist with control costs, help maintain harmonious employee relations, contribute to improved workflow, keep accurate records, and help maintain the department in 'white glove' condition. 

The ideal Production Manager candidate will have a post-secondary education or coursework, a certification or designation in the field of automotive repair, one year experience in a large-volume facility, some supervisory experience, and a willingness to accept accountability for the success of the department.

Duties and Responsibilities:
 
The following is a representative list of the duties and responsibilities associated with this position: 
  • Manage expectations with the customer(s) in order to deliver to promise 
  • Ensure work on repair orders is performed with efficiency, accuracy, and high quality, and in accordance with dealership, insurance company, and Manufacturer standards
  • Assist in the oversight of all work performed and ensure the repair order is properly documented with proper flag sheets, technician notes, etc.
  • Participate in all Paint Company, ICAR, ASE, or other training programs, certifications, schools, and events
  • Help ensure daily clean-up of all Body Shop areas
  • Assist in the management of the maintenance of dealership-owned tools and manuals
  • Understand, stay abreast of, and comply with federal, state, and local regulations such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc.
  • Help ensure all tooling and equipment is operated in a safe manner
  • Immediately respond to safety issues with corrective action(s) 
  • Share in the institution and promotion of a new-technician learning process and act as a mentor by illustrating best practices and by embracing/promoting quality repairs
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures and safety standards 
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Carrying: Transporting an object, usually holding it in the hands or arms, or on the shoulder 
  • Pushing: Exerting force upon an object so that the object moves away from the force (Includes slapping, striking, kicking, and treadle actions) 
  • Pulling: Exerting force upon an object so that the object moves toward the force (includes jerking) 
  • Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles using feet and legs or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized 
  • Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, or running on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces, or maintaining body equilibrium when performing gymnastic feats 
  • Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist, requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscles 
  • Kneeling: Bending legs at knees to come to rest on knee or knees 
  • Crouching: Bending body downward and forward by bending legs and spine 
  • Crawling: Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet 
  • Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction 
  • Handling: Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with hand or hands. Fingers are involved only to the extent that they are an extension of the hand, such as to turn a switch or shift automobile gears 
  • Fingering: Picking, pinching, or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm as in handling 
  • Feeling: Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature, or texture, by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips 
  • Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word to impart oral information to clients or to the public and to convey detailed spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly 
  • Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds by ear 
  • Tasting/Smelling: Distinguishing, with a degree of accuracy, differences or similarities in intensity or quality of flavors or odors, or recognizing particular flavors or odors using tongue or nose 
  • Near Vision: Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less 
  • Far Vision: Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more 
  • Depth Perception: Three-dimensional vision. Ability to judge distances and spatial relationships so as to see objects where and as they actually are 
  • Visual Accommodation: Adjustment of lens of eye to bring an object into sharp focus. This factor is required when doing near point work at varying distances from the eye 
  • Color Vision: Ability to identify and distinguish colors 
  • Field of Vision: Observing an area that can be seen up and down or to right or left while eyes are fixed on a given point
