Job description

Who We Are Looking For:

Are you the Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) we have been looking for? In this position, you will be able to convey your passion for helping others with a dynamic team by bringing an energetic and positive approach while working with youth that we serve!

The Merrimack Center, a DMH-licensed and JCAHO-accredited program, provides exceptional residential services for adolescents ages 13 to 18 with major mental illness, intellectual disabilities, autism, and complex trauma histories. We provide comprehensive therapeutic care, including an onsite special education school, complete onsite clinical services, nursing staff, occupational therapy, and a 24-hour therapeutic milieu within a locked residential treatment program.

Salary: $85,000 - $90,000

What You'll Do:

  • We are seeking a BCBA who can provide therapeutic relationships with people from diverse backgrounds, including those of different racial, ethnic, linguistic, religious, and sexual orientation identities.
  • Provide training for staff that tailors each student's individual needs.
  • Complete written Functional Behavioral Assessment FBA for each youth, as needed.
  • Document observations of the youth in the program and community activities
  • Conduct structured interviews with the youth, family, and any identified collaterals about their behavior(s)
  • Develop a focused behavior management treatment plan that identifies specific behavioral and measurable objectives or performance goals and interventions that are designed to diminish, extinguish, or improve specific behaviors related to a youth’s mental health condition(s)
  • Observe and analyze behavior in settings where the behavior is naturally occurring; evaluate specific antecedent stimuli and consequences; and understand the values, skills, and resources of those who are responsible for implementing the behavior plan
  • Select interventions and strategies based on the results of the FBA and design behavior plans that include intensive behaviorally oriented interventions.
  • Evaluate progress based on qualitative and quantitative data and adjust the behavior plan as needed.
  • Work with parents/caregivers, residential staff, and paraprofessional staff in the program to implement behavior plans using techniques grounded in principles of positive behavior support (PBS) and applied behavioral analysis (ABA) with an aim toward extinguishing a wide range of challenging behaviors and increasing more socially acceptable behaviors that are age or developmentally appropriate. Interventions that are incorporated into the youth’s new or existing risk management/safety plan.
  • Model for the parent/guardian/staff how to implement strategies identified in the behavior management plan
  • Work closely with the Administrative Team to ensure the behavior management plans and risk management/safety plan are implemented as developed and to make any necessary adjustments to the plan.
  • Complete all required documentation promptly
