Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Observes operation of the machine and verifies conformance of machined workpiece to specifications, using measuring instruments, such as fixed gauges and scales.
- Examines and feels the surface of the piece for defects.
- Guides dressing tool across the wheel to the true surface.
- Maintains ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Maintains adjustments on angles for taper.
- Maintains knowledge on how to dress grinding wheel and regulation rolls.
- Maintains knowledge of how to power up, power down, start, and stop the machine.
- Maintains the ability and knowledge to make size adjustments.
- Polishes ground areas with finer abrasive to produce a smooth, unmarred surface.
- Read size sheets for product specifications, such as dimensions and tolerances and tooling instructions such as cutting speed, depth of cut, and determines sequence of operation.
- Maintains knowledge on chemicals such as acids and methanol for checking of burns on finish part.
- Starts grinder and moves it over surface of work piece to remove scratches, laminated metal, excess weld material, and burrs.
- Checks parts for stock amount.
- Starts pump and direct coolant flow against wheel.
- Maintains check on oil levels on daily basis.
- Works in teams.
- Performs daily inspections on equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance per instructions for machine.
- Record required information, either in written or electronic form, pertinent to production, quality, and time records.
- Perform any other job-related duties per direction of supervisor or lead person.
- Follow all safety and housekeeping rules, policies, and procedures.
