POSITION SUMMARY:

The Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research (CIBMTR) provides a unique resource of data and statistical expertise to the scientific community for addressing important issues in hematopoietic cell transplantation and cellular therapies. The Biostatistician I participates in the statistical support of research studies and projects within the Patient Outcomes and Experience department in alignment with NMDP's mission, vision, and strategic plan. This includes support for CIBMTR research projects aligned with NMDP's goals. They are responsible for coding data, describing populations, and performing statistical analyses. This position can be remote (US) or hybrid. #LI-Remote #LI-Hybrid

ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Serves as the statistician for clinical research studies. Provides project management oversight for research studies to ensure the timely and accurate completion of analyses and submission of studies for publication.
  • Supports study design plans; prepares preliminary study tables to assess study feasibility, identifies final study population, and performs descriptive and univariate analyses. Interprets statistical analyses results.
  • Prepares and cleans datasets for research studies. Performs statistical analyses and manages research projects assessing the results of transplant outcomes utilizing statistical packages (SAS).
  • Assists in writing peer-reviewed scientific publications, providing expertise and scientific content regarding the study design, study population, statistical methodology and description of results.
  • Perform descriptive analyses in response to requests from external parties through the CIBMTR Information Request Process.
  • Assists database programmers with the creation of new database variables and resolution of database problems. Coordinates with database programmers on guidance for database structures that are appropriate for analysis.
  • Fulfills requests and projects for datasets and analyses that support the mission of NMDP and the departments within.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:
  • Research study design methods, independent problem solving, decision making, statistical analyses.
  • SAS programming of datasets.
  • Logistic regression and survival analysis methods.
  • Fundamental statistical concepts and methodologies.

Ability to:
  • Employ excellent interpersonal skills that enable enjoyable collaboration with diverse study staff and investigators.
  • Implement problem-solving skills, with a positive attitude that allows all problems to be broken into manageable parts and tackled.
  • Utilize excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to provide meticulous documentation of processes and organize materials in a transparent manner.
  • Manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines and stay organized.

Education and/or Experience:
  • Master's degree in Biostatistics or closely related biomedical field where biostatistical design and analyses comprised the primary course of study and application.
  • 0+ years of experience in performing statistical design/analysis in health or medical related research, or project management. Recent Master's level graduates will be considered.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: (Additional qualifications that may make a person even more effective in the role, but are not required for consideration)
  • Experience in clinical trials.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills that can enable enjoyable collaboration with diverse study staff and investigators.
  • Demonstrated success working/collaborating with diverse populations in a role that has focused on improving health equity by working to eliminate health disparities and/or addressing systemic racism.
