Billing Representative

Summary/Objective


Seeking a Medical Billing Specialist with a minimum of two years full revenue cycle billing experience to become an integral part of our Billing/Collections team. This person will be a part-time, goal-oriented, revenue-driven, highly accurate and motivated Biller. Primary duties include but are not limited to daily claims submissions and consistent follow-up on outstanding claims. Secondary duties include but are not limited to data entry of all patient demographics, guarantor and insurance information, diagnosis and procedures verification, insurance/patient payments posting, and balance to daily deposits.


Job Duties:


  • Patient account research and resolution.
  • Make outbound calls to responsible parties to finalize payment to accounts.
  • Assist patients with billing concerns & inquiries via phone. Review, audit, reconcile patient accounts. Review reports and work on aging claims (over 30 days) and collections. Generate revenue by making payment arrangements, collecting outstanding accounts, monitoring delinquent accounts.
  • Daily charge entry.
  • Coordinate insurance refund requests.
  • Insurance verification and benefits determination.
  • Ensure all claims are submitted with a goal of zero errors.
  • Accurately post all insurance payments by line item.
  • Timely follow up on insurance claim denials, exceptions or exclusions.
  • Meet deadlines.
  • Reading and interpreting insurance explanation of benefits.
  • Make necessary arrangements for medical records requests, completion of additional information requests, etc. as requested by insurance companies.
  • Respond to inquiries from insurance companies, patients and providers.
  • Regularly meet with Billing Manager to discuss and resolve reimbursement issues or billing obstacles.
  • Regularly attend meetings and continuing educational sessions as requested.
  • Perform additional duties as requested by Supervisory or Management team.


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:


  • Computer experience is essential, including, but not limited to: practice management software, email, word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Experience in CPT and ICD-10 coding; familiarity with medical terminology.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage relationships with various Insurance payers.
  • Experience in filing claim appeals with insurance companies to ensure maximum entitled reimbursement.
  • Responsible use of confidential information.
  • Perform to company standards of compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Ability to multi-task and work courteously and respectfully with fellow employees, clients and patients.
  • Knowledge of Florida Medicaid and Managed care plans.
  • Knowledge of Athena One software and services.

  • Average lifting requirements: Lifting Requirements: 20-40 lbs. Frequency of Lifting: 0-25% of the time.
  • Additional physical demands: Ability to grasp with both hands; pinch with thumb or forefinger; turn with hand/arm; reach for (above shoulder height).
  • Ability to type 60 wpm.
  • Ability to operate multi-line telephone system, computer keyboard and ten-key adding machine.
      • Visual, Hearing, and Mental demands:
  • Vision adequate to perform essential functions such as read telephone displays/computer terminals for long periods of time, correctable to 20/20.
  • Hearing adequate to perform essential functions such as answering the telephone.
  • Mental capacity adequate to perform essential functions such as quickly and accurately entering patient demographics and scanning documents while checking in multiple patients. Tact to deal with unfriendly individuals regarding various situations, and adequately handle stress.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school degree (or equivalent) and two (2) years healthcare billing experience
