POSITION SUMMARY
The Billing Clerk position works to ensure Behavioral Health Clinic insurance and patient billing processes are completed in a timely manner to ensure maximum possible reimbursement and payments. Ensures accuracy of patient account balances, insurance claim procedures, and payment processing.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Patient billing
a. Create and send out patient account statements
b. Post patient payments and reconcile patient accounts
c. Follow up with patients as needed for collections on unpaid accounts
2. Insurance billing
a. Verify insurance eligibility of patients prior to services being rendered
b. Process insurance claim billing for clinic services
c. Review claim rejections, make corrections, and re-process for payment
d. Obtain and record insurance authorizations as needed
e. Post insurance payments to patient accounts
f. Maintain up-to-date knowledge and practice of billing codes and opportunities to maximize allowable reimbursement
3. Program documentation
a. Assist providers in cross entering notes for secondary documentation as needed for VOCA
4. Credentialing
a. Verify and ensure that clinic therapists, APNP, and other medical professionals provide accurate and valid credentials and confirms that they meet all local and federal licensing and regulation requirements.
b. Set up the clinic therapists, APNP, and medical professionals in the various insurance billing systems (ie - Medicaid, Medicare, private insurances, etc.), and update the information to ensure that the providers remain active in the insurance billing systems and all required documents are up to date.
5. Other duties as assigned
a. Be aware of and follow NASW Code of Ethics
b. Medicaid (MA) responsibilities include but are not limited to entering notes for KARE Center and Crisis and transferring KARE Center assessments into the Client Tracking System (CTS)
QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent required. Medical billing experience preferred.
1. Ability to effectively communicate, both written and verbally, in the English language
2. Must have reliable transportation and valid driver's license with good driving record
3. Must carry own auto insurance with at least 100,000/300,000/100,000 coverage
4. Ability to maintain records and document case notes daily
5. Ability to give and accept feedback as a part of a team
6. Ability to traverse within the workspace and community frequently
7. Be willing to learn and work with the treatment philosophies
8. Bilingual in Spanish a plus
