Org. Setting and Reporting
The United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund was established in 1949 by the United Nations General Assembly to provide retirement, death, disability, and related benefits for staff of the United Nations and other member organizations of the Fund. The Pension Fund pays benefits in 17 currencies to more than 80,000 beneficiaries who reside in 190 countries, and services more than 140,000 participants who work in the 24 member organizations of the Pension Fund. The Fund has offices in New York (United States) and Geneva (Switzerland) and two liaison offices in Nairobi (Kenya) and Bangkok (Thailand), respectively. The United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund-Pension Administration (UNJSPF-PA) comprises about 250 staff from diverse countries and cultures, based across four prominent duty stations (New York, Geneva, Bangkok, and Nairobi). This position is based in New York and located in the Pension Entitlements Section (PES) within the Operations of the Pension Administration of the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF). The Pension Entitlements Section is responsible for participation, calculation, and processing of entitlements. The incumbent will report to a Benefits Officer and/or the Chief of the Section.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of a Benefits Officer in the Pension Entitlements Section of the Pension Fund, the Benefits Assistant will be responsible for the following duties: • Monitor and record all changes of participants’ status, e.g., dependents’ history, change in employment situations • Originate and update pension records from enrollment to separation ensuring that all required documents are received • Calculate withdrawal/residual settlements, transfer of pension rights and all types of periodic pension benefits such as retirement, early retirement, disability, deferred retirement, survivors’ and related benefits • Provide information to individual participants and retirees/beneficiaries as well as administrative staff of member organizations of the Pension Fund with respect to participation, entitlements and benefits, including validation, restoration and all benefit options available • Draft routine correspondence and respond to pension inquiries • Undertake necessary research to provide accurate information in conformity with the provisions of the rules and regulations of the Pension Fund, and contact appropriate member organizations to resolve issues • Initiate administrative actions or procedures due to changes in the status of participants/their dependents or in the pension plan • Participate in the standardization of procedures and text for communications originated by the Section • Take part in projects related to participants’ data • Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making. • Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures. • Perform other related duties, as assigned

Work Experience
A minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in employee benefits administration or related area is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to one (1) for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher One (1) year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official language of the United Nations is an advantage.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include a desk review of candidates' profiles or an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
Special Notice
This position is available through 31 December 2024 with possibility of extension subject to funding availability. This position is subject to local recruitment pursuant to staff rule 4.4 of the United Nations Staff Rules. Applicants for positions in the General Service and related categories must be authorized to work for the United Nations in the duty station where the position is located. Staff members subject to local recruitment are not eligible for allowances or benefits exclusively applicable to international recruitment. The applicable human resources procedures are governed by a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Fund and the UN Secretariat. United Nations Considerations
According to article 101, paragraph 3, of the Charter of the United Nations, the paramount consideration in the employment of the staff is the necessity of securing the highest standards of efficiency, competence, and integrity.
