Job Summary
The Well K.E.P.T. Program is a summer youth employment opportunity offered through the Natural Resource Division of the Parks & Community Services Department. The program is designed to provide Bellevue teens with education, job skills, and career development training in the field of park resource management. Work focuses on parkland renovation and maintenance; projects may include agricultural maintenance, forest enhancement, wetland restoration, and trail construction. The Well K.E.P.T. Program combines on-the-job work experience, environmental education, and career development training to instill strong self-esteem, good work habits, and sound environmental ethics.
The period of employment for Well K.E.P.T. Program Trainees is 06/25/2024 to 08/16/2024, Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (no work scheduled on July 4th).
Closes Friday, 03/29/2024 at 5 p.m.
Bellevue Well K.E.P.T. is funded by the King Conservation District's Member Jurisdiction Grant program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Removes noxious weeds from park forests
  • Builds and renovates hiking trails
  • Performs agricultural maintenance tasks
  • Implements various park improvement projects
  • Participates in educational and professional development workshops

Qualifications
  • Enthusiasm and desire to work outdoors.
  • Must be a student enrolled in high school in fall 2024.
  • Must be between 14 and 18 years of age on 06/25/2024. Hiring preference will be given to applicants entering their sophomore, junior, or senior years.
  • Must be able to work collaboratively as a team member to accomplish a common goal.
  • Hiring preference will be given to residents of Bellevue Washington.
  • Interest in learning about ecology and park resource management activities preferred.
  • The position is intended to be a learning experience, so no prior experience is required. Past Well K.E.P.T. trainees will be considered only if space is available.
  • Candidates selected for hire must pass a criminal background check prior to hire date.
