SUMMARY
The Nutrition Technician consults with the Registered Dietitian to ensure implementation of the best standard of nutrition and dietary services for adolescents and adults struggling with eating disorders. Responsibilities include providing meal support, grocery budget allocation, client menu planning, maintaining a clean and well stocked kitchen, assisting with cooking and baking for groups of up to 25, kitchen sanitation, and appropriately discerning between appropriate and inappropriate client eating behaviors. The Nutrition Technician is integral in developing a positive and supportive environment during meal and break times. The Nutrition Technician reports directly to the Nutrition Tech Manager and the Nutrition Director. The Nutrition Technician will be required to eat at least 1 meal per day with clients, up to two meals per day with clients, and food is provided by Prosperity. This requires a flexible relationship with food without significant dietary restrictions.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Purchase grocery items for the facility as needed, considering variety, special diets, and food safety.
- Uphold proper sanitation requirements and kitchen cleanliness.
- Facilitate and model normalized eating behavior for clients, redirecting eating disorder behaviors and assuring compliance with meal plan.
- Provide redirections when eating disorder behaviors are used at the table
- Plan menus and prepare meals as therapeutically recommended by Dietitian.
- Participate in restaurant experiences and catered meals.
- Advise clients appropriately on food choices.
- Conduct weekly client calorie counts/weights/vitals.
- Monitor client bathroom use and outdoor smoke breaks.
- Prepare and portion meals and snacks, including determining the amount of and portioning supplement as needed.
- Collaborate with the nutrition team to meet nutritional needs of the clients.
- Attend all staff meetings and nutrition team meetings.
- Document food and supplement intake of clients at meals and snacks in EMR.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition or Behavioral Science field and/or DTR certification through the Commission of Dietetic Registration. Preferred experience in or strong interest in working with eating disorders. Preferred experience in food service and complying with food safety standards. ServSafe certification is required within 90 days of hire.
