Job Title: Registered Nurse

Base Rate: $40.11-$56.16 (Med Surg, Telemetry, Behavioral Health)

12 hr. shifts- overtime is paid after 8 hours, resulting in an average rate of $46.80 - $65.52

Job Summary: The Behavioral Health (BH) Registered Nurse is specially trained to monitor and utilize therapeutic equipment necessary to provide specialized nursing care to patients with behavioral and/or mental disorders. The BH Nurse coordinates care to achieve desired outcomes, participates in patient and family teaching and provides leadership by delegating and working cooperatively and collaboratively with ancillary, nursing, and other patient team members in maintaining standards for professional nursing practice and performance in the clinical setting. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and service to the population of patients served in the Behavior Health Department. Actively and consistently contributes to department operations and communications, behaves in a manner consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Pipeline Health, upholding standards of AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank you) patient communication.

Essential Functions:

  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement a plan of care for a specific group of assigned patients, ensuring the coordination of care between other disciplines physicians, and support staff.
  • Performs professional nursing duties that incorporate the psychosocial, psychomotor, and age-appropriate cognitive skills of the patient/family/significant other to assess, plan, intervene and advocate for the patient on an ongoing basis throughout the continuum of care.
  • Reevaluates patient response and outcomes, effectiveness of plan of care, and readiness for discharge and revise plan or make referrals as necessary
  • Acts as a role model and mentor to a variety of new graduate nurses, orientees and support staff.
  • Round-the-clock nursing care, daily medical management by internists and psychiatrists, as well as daily group therapy led by social service staff and recreation therapy staff.
  • Collects current symptoms, detailed patient history and consults and coordinates with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement & evaluate patient care plans.
  • Attends and/or completes monthly, annual, and assigned training.
  • Accurately obtains & records results of assessment, care delivery, medication and administration, treatments, responses in the electronic medical record or on designation documentation packets.
  • Performs daily checks of and cleans equipment such as but not limited to monitors, code equipment, crash cart checks and oxygen cylinders.
  • Prepares and administers medications using the rights established by the State Board of Nursing of state employed and facility policies and procedures.
  • Uses clear, concise, professional communication with coworkers, patients, all customers internal and external.
  • Uses AIDET in interactions with patients and family members. Utilizes white boards for patient communication.
  • Collaborates across disciplines to assist in coordination of patient care, including but not limited to patient transfer, discharge, referrals, and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
  • Acts with a sense of urgency when performing tasks.
  • Basic unit/department maintenance such as keeping files, drawers, cabinets free from unnecessary clutter. Reports on any equipment and or environmental issues for repair.
  • Abides by HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) regulations.
  • Utilizes SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation) when communicating with oncoming shift, physician communication and giving report to ancillary or other nursing services.
  • Speaks up to stop the line and escalates potential safety events if necessary.
  • Completes and attends monthly training assigned.
  • May float to other areas of the hospital as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Attends staff meetings; follows HIPAA guidelines; follows patient rights policy; complies with the compliance program; demonstrates knowledge of role in a disaster; demonstrates knowledge of fire and fire drill procedures; working knowledge of hospital emergency codes; always utilizes standard precautions in the clinical setting; safely manages the environment of care by demonstrating a working knowledge of the requirements of the: Life Safety program, Utilities Management program, Hazardous Materials program, Emergency Preparedness program, Safety Management program, Medical Equipment Management program, Security Management program.

Experience:

  • Minimum one (1) years’ experience as a Behavioral Health nurse in a psychiatric facility.
  • Adaptable to changing work schedules and patient needs.
  • Critical thinking, service excellence and good interpersonal communication skills, ability to read/comprehend written instructions, strong organizational skills, ability to follow verbal instructions, and PC (computer) skills.
  • A capacity to learn, synthesize, make critical judgments, work independently, place patients and families first, and collaborate with the team members who are recognized leaders within health care.

Education:

N/A

Licensure/Certifications:

  • Current professional RN license issued and/or recognized by the state Board of Nursing for the State of employment.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) from American Heart Association (AHA) required.
  • Current Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing Certification (RN-BC) preferred
  • Satori Alternatives to Managing Aggression (SAMA) Certification preferred.
  • MAB Required
