Job description

We are seeking a personable, energetic, and organized Banquet Manager. The position is responsible for executing catered events, which includes coordinating with the General Manager, the Director of Sales and Events, and the Executive Chef, along with all members of the catering and culinary teams, to go above and beyond to deliver flawless and memorable events. To succeed in this position, the perfect candidate will bring a high level of energy and professionalism that is infectious to the staff and the event. They must have extensive experience managing large dining events and providing excellent customer service that surpasses all guest expectations.

Meadow Brook Hall is a premier event venue which prides itself on flawless events and superb customer service. Meadow Brook Hall is, first and foremost, a nationally recognized historic house museum and, secondly, a premier event venue. The Hall is a self-supporting museum, therefore, rental of our facility for events, along with revenue produced from touring and various Meadow Brook fundraisers, help keep Meadow Brook Hall available and open to the public to enjoy.

Overview of the Banquet Manager Job Description:

As Banquet Manager, you will oversee the daily operations of the Catering Service Staff, working as a team with the General Manager, the Director of Sales and Events, and the Executive Chef. The range of events includes but is not limited to, weddings, social, corporate, and community events, and events specific to Oakland University and Meadow Brook Hall.

This position is employed by Continental Cregar's LLC at Meadow Brook Hall on the campus of Oakland University in Rochester, MI, under the terms of the Food and Beverage Services Agreement between Continental Cregar's LLC and Oakland University. The position directly reports to the General Manager, the Director of Operations, and the Owners of the contracted catering company.

Banquet Manager Job Responsibilities:

  • Be punctual for all work-related duties, events, and meetings.
  • Always represent yourself with highly professional behavior, attire, and service attitude.
  • Manage service staff, including all service staff and bartenders, ensuring that the service team is competent, efficient, and effective. Duties include hiring/staffing, scheduling, training, performance, appearance, reviews, pre-event set-up, service standards, post-event take-down, and closing duties.
  • Prepare work schedules and complete all required documentation promptly.
  • Provide support on a daily basis with Caterease software and BEOs related to all duties of the service staff.
  • Coordinate the service type, style, and implementation to best fit the event, including services for all food and beverages and bar beverages.
  • Consult with the Chef to discuss the timing of the meal courses being served. Work directly with Chef for special menu / dietary requests.
  • Maintain strong communication with the Event Coordinators.
  • Control the designated costs and quality of services offered in the areas designated to the position.
  • Participate in preparing the venue for each event, including supervising the placement of bars, tables, chairs, table settings, and serving stations.
  • Oversee events from start to finish and provide a visible presence in the guest-occupied areas during all phases of service, including seating guests, serving meals and beverages, and efficient and timely table maintenance.
  • Prepare product requisitions to ensure the availability of all alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and specialty beverage stations.
  • Prepare uniform, linen, bar, and service supplies requisitions to ensure the availability of all elements necessary to execute the events.
  • Maintain and control inventory for uniform, linen, bar and service supplies and equipment.
  • Oversee the service, storage, office, and working areas to ensure that they are maintained in a clean and orderly manner.
  • Work with and assist in directing third-party vendors such as florists, entertainers, decorators, and other third-party vendors.
  • Answer guest questions and accommodate special requests as necessary.
  • Participate in completing the billing functions for each event.
  • Attend weekly Sheets meetings - BEO review.
  • Manage pre-shift meetings for the service team day of the event.
  • Participate in internal meetings, logistics, execution, and service for Special Events, such as the Holiday Walk, Winter Wonder Lights, and expansion plans.
  • Ensure the highest service standards while maintaining a cooperative, team attitude when working with supervisors and fellow associates to help achieve the common goal of exceeding guest satisfaction.
  • Continually seek to enhance knowledge of service-related skills and the history of Meadow Brook Hall.
  • Ensure Oakland University and Meadow Brook Hall policies and procedures are followed.
  • Responsible for all other tasks as assigned.

Requirements:

  • The ideal employee should have a high level of energy and professionalism, an outgoing personality, remarkable decision-making skills, excellent attention to detail, well-developed organizational and leadership skills, computer skills with experience in detailing events, and the ability to work well in a fast-paced environment while always maintaining a professional demeanor in all circumstances.
  • A demonstrated track record of extensive experience in managing large dining events and providing excellent customer service that surpasses all guest expectations.
  • Impeccable service standards and perceptiveness.
  • Highly developed customer service skills.
  • Effective interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in using a moderately complex catering software system (Caterease).
  • Available to work nights, weekends, and the occasional holiday as events and business dictate.
  • Must be able to work well within a team.
  • Must be able to present a cheerful attitude even in very taxing moments.

Desired:

  • Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management or another related field.
  • Accredited training /certifications in Catering, Culinary Arts, and Hospitality.
  • Experience with Caterease software.
  • 3+ years of Event, Managerial, and/or Customer Service experience

Salary Range: $50,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
