The Banquet Captain is responsible for providing supervision to banquet staff as well as oversee the service and breakdown functions in a safe manner. The Banquet Captain is also responsible for ensuring guest satisfaction during events and resolving guest complaints as necessary.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Communicate all banquet event order changes to catering or convention services office.
- Verify staffing levels for the next day’s function- adjust schedules accordingly.
- Write comprehensible directions.
- Calculate all expenses/ handle cash.
- Lead/ direct employees.
- Coordinate with banquet staff set-up.
- Resolve customer complaints/ any conflict.
- Check server and houseperson banquet event orders to ensure that all information is accurate.
- Ensure that food quality is consistent.
- Operate as a banquet server when needed.
- Abide by all State, Federal and Corporate requirements pertaining to alcoholic beverages.
- Post all banquet checks at the end of the day and turn in to night audit.
- Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY DUTIES – Lead team members during events
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be able to speak, read, write and understand English.
- Three years' experience as a server/supervisor in a high-volume hotel, restaurant, and convention or banquet facility.
- Previous leadership skills desired.
- Must display very good organization and time management skills.
- Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with many types of personalities.
- Ability to make quick and accurate decisions.
- Ability to function in a fast-paced environment, under short time constraints and within established deadlines.
- Basic knowledge of food presentation.
Physical Environment:
- Endure various physical movements; must be able to lift at least 75 pounds.
- Must be able to push/pull up to 175 pounds.
- Must be able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
- Must be able to stand and exert well placed mobility for up to 8 hours.
- Must be able to kneel, squat, bend, stoop and twist to perform job duties.
