SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Assist passengers on movement of parcels and luggage within the station
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Handle baggage, express and company materials and be qualified to operate electrical and battery powered equipment and elevators
  • Should be familiar with Parcel Checks and will be held responsible for collection and depositing any Amtrak revenue he/she receives during their tour of duty
  • Revenue includes that which is collected from excess baggage, storage charges, transfers, COD's, temporary checking, Amtrak Express, prepaid delivery, excess valuations, etc
  • Conform to Amtrak's "Standards of Excellence" and prescribed code of dress
  • Willing to perform other duties as may be assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or general education development (GED) high school equivalency diploma
  • Ability to read, write and have a thorough knowledge of the physical layout of the station
  • Knowledge of all aspects of receiving, delivering and forwarding of passenger's baggage
  • Abililty to lift 50 pounds

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Bachelor's degree in transportation, business management or related field or equivalent work experienced preferred
  • Two years of college or work equivalency. Incumbent must conform to Amtrak's "Standards of Excellence" and prescribed code of dress

COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
The hourly range is $16.71 - $22.28 (with opportunity for increases, as per the applicable collective bargaining agreement, after beginning employment). In accordance with DOT regulations (49 CFR § 40.25), Amtrak is required to obtain prior drug and alcohol testing records for applicants/employees intending to perform safety-sensitive duties for covered Department of Transportation positions. If an applicant/employee refuses to provide written consent for Amtrak to obtain these records, the individual will not be permitted to perform safety-sensitive functions.
In accordance with federal law governing security checks of covered individuals for public transportation ( Title 6 U.S.C. § 1143), Amtrak is required to screen applicants for any permanent or interim disqualifying criminal offenses.
Note that any education requirement listed above may be deemed satisfied if you have an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
