Background Investigator

The Medford Police Department is recruiting for part-time Background Investigator.

This position will be responsible for conducting personal and professional background investigations for public safety candidates as well as other special circumstances by interviewing employers, co-workers, neighbors, law enforcement officials, military personnel, members of the candidate’s family, and personal references; preparing reports on findings and making recommendations as to background findings.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

• Must have five (5) or more years of experience as a certified Police Officer as defined below.
• Have had an Oregon DPSST Police Officer certification; or
• Have had an out-of-state Police Officer certification in good standing.
• ORS 801.395 defines "Police Officer" as: a member of the Oregon State Police, a Sheriff, a Deputy Sheriff, or a City Police Officer.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in background investigations for public entities.
• Familiarity with the Guardian Alliance program.

Additional Qualifications:

• Possession of a valid driver’s license by date of hire.
• Ability to maintain acceptable driving record throughout employment.
• Successful completion of a background investigation to the satisfaction of the City.
• Ability to obtain Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) clearance upon hire.
• Ability to obtain Law Enforcement Data Systems (LEDS) certification within six months of employment.

Work Schedule:

• This position is part-time as needed and may be scheduled up to 20 hours/week.
• Opportunity for hybrid/remote.
