Under general supervision, provides a safe and fun environment for children while parents are using one of the City recreation facilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Interacts with children and parents in a positive and friendly manner.
Leads children in games and other group activities.
Ensures all possible safety measures are observed.
Communicates and enforces facility policies and procedures.
Responds to emergency situations as required and maintains accurate accident and incident reports.
Provides excellent customer service, including interacting with participants and/or parents to answer questions and resolve problems.
Reports any issues and/or concerns to supervisor or management staff.
Complies with City and departmental rules and regulations, policies, and procedures.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Requires six months of previous babysitting experience. Must be at least 16 years of age. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Licensing/Certification Requirements:
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
May need the ability to travel to various locations in a timely manner as the job requires.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the policies, procedures and goals of the city of Thornton and the department.
Knowledge of basic childcare procedures.
Skill in performing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) activities.
Skill in effectively leading and coordinating children's activities.
Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the public.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks.
Ability to read, interpret and apply operating policies and procedures.
Ability to react quickly and accurately in emergency situations.
Ability to listen well and communicate effectively with the public.
Ability to maintain composure during mentally, physically and emotionally stressful situations.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, stand, walk, kneel, squat, stoop, climb, crawl, repeatedly twist the upper body, talk, hear, see, demonstrate manual dexterity, and be able to lift 40 pounds repetitively. The employee must demonstrate the ability to remain calm during routine and stressful conditions.
