Job Description

Description
As an Avionics Test Automation Engineer, you will develop and run tests for all kinds of flight electrical devices, from individual circuit boards to entire vehicles. You will write test software, execute tests, and review data; as well as develop, build, and maintain test hardware infrastructure. You will work directly with avionics hardware engineers, propulsion engineers, GNC engineers, and others. You will have the opportunity to contribute to all the stages of spacecraft development, from initial concepts to on-orbit operations.

Responsibilities
  • Own entire test systems from start to finish. Determine the best way to meet requirements, specify and purchase hardware, automate your hardware, fix problems, and own the results
  • Test electrical devices to ensure they’re suitable for flight. Write the necessary software, run the tests, identify problems and help fix them
  • Be a spacecraft operator during on-the-ground spacecraft testing. Make the spacecraft do things, and review the resulting data
  • Learn about, design, and build dedicated test setups for specialized devices like optical, motorized, or RF devices
  • Support launch site activities by traveling with the spacecraft and operating it during the final checkouts before launch, and reviewing data

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in any relevant engineering field
  • 2+ years experience testing electrical or mechanical products
  • 2+ years experience writing software (Python, Labview, C/C++, or any other relevant language)
  • Experience automating test equipment
  • Self-starter with a proactive drive to solve problems
  • Ability to communicate technical challenges, explain rationale and/or resolve concerns

Preferred Skills and Experience
  • 2+ years of experience working on a vehicle project of any kind (spacecraft, rocket, car, boat, plane, drone, etc)
  • Experience safely operating hazardous systems (high voltage, high pressure, etc)
  • Experience with vibe tables, thermal chambers, or other aerospace test equipment
  • Comfort and familiarity with Linux
  • Demonstrated success in root cause and/or failure analysis
  • Experience in a startup or agile development environment
Additional Information:
Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity.
