REQUIREMENTS AND PREFERENCES
The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Electronics Technician in the Aviation Department's Maintenance Division.

General Description
The Aviation Department which operates the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and the North Perry Airport is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Electronics Technician. The Electronics Technician performs a moderate supervisory and skilled technical work in coordinating the inspecting, installation, adjustments, maintenance, and modification of process instrumentation equipment, PLC's, computers and peripherals, electronic control mechanisms, A/D converters, pneumatic/hydraulic controllers, encoded digital frequency shaft telemetry, Variable Frequency Drives (VFD's) and related communications and conveyor equipment.
Work involves supervision, assignment, and coordination in the work of skilled technical subordinates involving maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of a variety of control equipment and control mechanisms. Work includes advanced application of the principles and techniques of industrial electronic/electrical instrumentation repairs and adjustments on automatic and electronic/pneumatic/hydraulic control devices, such as programmable controllers, and variable frequency drives. Work includes troubleshoot, repair and replacement of conveyor electrical and electronic equipment, security access, public address systems, fire alarm systems and gate control systems.
Employees exercise considerable independent judgment in determining systems and job requirements regarding the various technical phases of repair, installation, modification, maintenance, and troubleshooting. Instructions are received in the form of work orders and verbal radio dispatch, with the job detailing and planning left to the discretion of the incumbent. Work is performed under the general direction of a technical or administrative superior who reviews work through conferences, reports, logs, and observation of work results.
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License class "E" or higher for duration of appointment. Ability to obtain/maintain Airfield driving privileges movement and non- movement.
All Aviation Maintenance Division employees must be able to perform rotational shift work and/or overtime (holidays, weekends and emergencies) in support of operational needs in a twenty-four (24) hour per day/seven (7) days per week operation and in accordance with a collective bargaining agreement.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requires three (3) years of working with electronics and low and high voltage or closely related experience.
Special Certifications and Licenses
Must possess a valid Florida driver's license during employment and maintain authority to drive on County business.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Badge and Customs Seal.
Preferences
  • Vocational/technical electrical training certification.
  • Allen Bradley PLC and I/O construction, commissioning and/or programming experience demonstrated by vendor certification.
  • Knowledge of Airport Conveyor Systems, Security card access systems, Fire Alarm panels, Automated External Defibrillator (AED), gate controller operators, camera systems, and video monitors.
  • Knowledge of High Speed Diverters, and Vertical Sortation Units.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.
Supervises subordinates in the use of a variety of instrumentation and electronic equipment including electronic tests, pneumatic/hydraulic testers, computers, master controllers, shop tools, and other specialized devices.
Installs, adjusts, and maintains alternating and direct current devices, sensors, recorders, analog/digital parameter transmitters and receivers; installs and tests special equipment such as antennae, frequency monitors, microphones, cable and electrical interference suppressors.
Installs, adjusts, and maintains medium high and ultra-high frequency alternating and direct current radio receivers, transmitters, and auxiliaries according to diagrams, drawings and sketches.
Supervises and participates in the installation, adjustment, repair, and maintenance of flow loop system, alternating and direct current circuitry with solid state electronic micro circuitry, pneumatic control systems, and related equipment.
Supervises and participates in on-site maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting work.
Assigns work to subordinate technicians, participates in the more difficult phases of installation, adjustment, repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting of computers, flow measuring devices, sensors, analog/digital controllers, programmable controllers, transmitters and receivers, detecting devices, and other alternating and direct current devices.
Supervises complete overhaul, including adjusting, repairing, and replacing parts and converting obsolete equipment to conform to present control loop design and construction standards.
Makes recommendations to superiors for the improvement of instrumentation, industrial electronic/electrical, pneumatic/mechanical control devices and digital frequency shift telemetry.
Estimates time and materials required for proposed jobs maintains records and submits various reports requisitions supplies and equipment; prepares and maintains operating and special reports as required by his superior.
Performs related work as assigned.
