Job Description:
- ISUZU Technical Center of America is hiring an Autonomous Vehicle Human Machine Interface (HMI) Software Development Intern to help improve the Human-AV interface for ISUZU N-Series Trucks. The Intern will work with a diverse cross-disciplinary team to come up with the best solution that meets the customer’s expectations while providing a simple and intuitive interaction to the Autonomous Vehicle.
Responsibilities:
- Design and develop Autonomous Vehicle HMIs, which allow users to monitor the state of autonomous driving system, access historical information, modify control settings to change the control objective, and manually override automatic control operations in the event of an emergency.
- Work closely with perception team, planning team, and control team to identify design requirements of the HMI system.
- Design graphic user interface elements.
- Establish communication between the HMI system and the vehicle with CAN and Ethernet protocols.
- Test the HMI system on a self-driving simulator for concepts and design validation.
- Test the HMI system on a self-driving vehicle for concepts and design validation.
- Benchmark similar systems on competitor vehicles.
- Write documents describing system functionality and testing results.
- Present progress to internal teams and key stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Computer Engineering; Or Bachelor’s degree with proven work experience in Software Development.
- Experience with QT modeling or automotive HMI systems.
- Proficiency with programming languages (Java, Python, C/C++, etc.).
- Able to work independently and take ownership of tasks from start to finish.
- Ability to clearly communicate technical information to non-technical users, both verbally and in writing.
- Candidates must have a GPA of 3.6 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
This position requires 3 days' work on site at the Plymouth, MI location.
