Position Purpose
Automotive Technology provides an awareness and exploration of careers and technical skills in the automotive and transportation industry for students grades 10 -12. The program is an approved program based on North Dakota CTE standards, instructor qualifications, and NATEF certification guidelines.
Instructional Planning & Project Preparation - 25%
  • Designs effective curriculum-based projects and activities aligned with state standards and district essential learning outcomes.
  • Develops and implements instructional plans and activities in the automotive classroom and lab.
  • Attends District PLC meetings as scheduled.
  • Coordinates CTE Student Organization activities for local, regional, state and/or national competition
  • Manages inventory control including purchasing materials, supplies, equipment and tools.
  • Performs routine maintenance of equipment and tools used in the program.
Teaching and Student Support - 65%
  • Plans and instruct course content in a student-centered learning environment.
  • Demonstrates and instructs skills based on automotive and transportation industry standards.
  • Provides students with opportunities to expand knowledge and skills through relevant projects and applied activities related to: safety and shop orientation, brakes, engines, electrical/electronics, drive train and axles, transmission, suspension and steering, HVAC, leadership, and career ready practices.
  • Instructs and demonstrates proper safety practices and procedures based on industry standards toward OHSA10 certification.
  • Builds positive relationships with students by providing meaningful feedback and support.
  • Collaborates with staff to ensure individualized learning needs are met.
  • Monitors and records student progress providing formative feedback and evaluations.
  • Demonstrates strategies to support students as a group and one-on-one to complete lessons, assignments, projects, activities and assessments.
  • Provides students with clear expectations, continual feedback, and logical consequences.
  • Cultivates business partnerships to participates in field trips to post-secondary institutes, worksites, businesses, and hands-on workshops
General Duties, Program Support & CTSO promotion - 15%
  • Serves as a member of the Advisory Committee
  • Complete meetings minutes and send to the Department of CTE Career Development
  • Works collaboratively to cultivate business partnerships for work-based learning
  • General student supervision as needed. This includes but is not limited to locations indoors and outdoors, such as lunchroom, bus stops, playground, classroom, field trips, public transportation, assemblies, and kitchen
  • Attend conferences and workships toward present and future career development. Participates in genral staff meetings.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum of an Associate degree or equivalent post-secondary diploma from related field
  • A minimum of four years (8,000 hours) of progressive work experience in the occupation of automotive, diesel, or related industries within the past eight years. Successful completion of an associate degree in a related field or passage an approved competency examination may be substituted for one year (2,000 hours) of work experience.
  • Provisional certification may be granted when the candidate is enrolled in an approved CTE alternative teacher education program.
  • All secondary Trade, Industry, Technical, and Health Sciences Education instructors shall complete the Transition to Teaching program within the first two years of employment and adhere to guidance for renewal based on the North Dakota Department of CTE SecondaryLicensingReq.pdf
Preferred Qualifications
  • Valid ND Secondary Teaching License in Trade, Industry or Technical Education
  • Must possess the organizational and communications skills necessary to be an effective teacher
    Computer skills (i.e., Microsoft Office applications, Email, etc.)
  • Indication of willingness to remain current in the profession based on licensing requirements.
  • Prior experience or evidence of working with student is desired.
  • Indication of a willingness to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, staff, and business/industry personnel.
