The City of Charleston's Public Service Department is looking for an Automotive Electrical Technician! This role performs services and repairs on electrical/electronic automotive parts and systems within City vehicles. The Automotive Electrical Technician will troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve complex issues and perform advanced repairs.
Services electrical/electronic automotive parts and systems on vehicles.
Performs complex modifications to vehicle electrical systems to meet client needs.
Provides estimated time for repairs.
Repairs and replaces faulty wiring or electrical/electronic systems.
Installs aftermarket products as needed.
Maintains a clean working environment.
Completes work orders and processes paperwork.
Presents and demonstrates efficient and effective methods of diagnosing and correcting vehicle electrical systems and electronic systems.
Installs, removes, and maintains two-way radios, light bars, flasher modules, tablet systems, backup cameras, GPS trackers, Mobile Data Terminals and antennas in city vehicles and heavy equipment.
Analyzes, troubleshoots, and resolves issues in a professional and timely manner.
Diagnoses electrical issues and executes a course of action.
Performs difficult repair activities, e.g., steering column repair or exchange, engine repair, or replacement, and electrical diagnostic.
Determines needed repair and perform the repair.
Performs standard part replacement.
Troubleshoots/diagnoses repair of malfunctioning devices.
Interprets early engineering level electrical schematic diagrams.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Associate's degree (AA/AS) and three years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid South Carolina Driver's License.
ASE Certified in Electrical/Electronics or must obtain within 9 months of employment.
Ability to read and interpret a digital multimeter, OEM diagnostic scan tool and other automotive related diagnostic test equipment.
