Volt is immediately hiring for an Automation Project Manager in Carol Stream, Illinois.

As an Automation Project Manager you will:
- Be responsible for hardware selection and software development.
- Guides the hardware design (does not do CAD) but develops the required programs.
- Can manage a team of developers if necessary (internal or external) (hardware and software)
- Manage the planning and budget of the project if necessary.
- Write the functional and risk analysis if necessary.
- Adhere to established rules and development guidelines.
- Provide documents useful for the understanding and follow-up of the project.
- Direct and assist engineers in situations where troubleshooting or technology may fall outside their area of expertise.
- Evaluate new technologies and other supplier innovations.
- Suggest development ideas that are within the scope of responsibilities.
- Writes specifications or terms of reference that will be useful to suppliers and/or subcontractors.
- Organize the project: Planning within the defined budget and the milestones of the Product Development Program.
- Lead and be the first sponsor of a project.
- Organize supplier benchmarks.
- Work on functional and risk analyses with all the design stakeholders.
- Guide the hardware design.
- Develop the software to meet the specifications or requirements (function, module, or machine)
- Direct the mechanical engineers to have a mechatronic system; electrical components ideally integrated.
- Understand and work on the Industry 4.0 part of the project, data orientation for traceability, prediction, trouble shooting, machine intelligence etc....
- Understand and work on the machine intelligence algorithms, up to artificial intelligence.
- Conduct tests on a prototype at the customer’s plant during extended field trials.
- Create the technical documentation to understanding the project.
- Train company personnel to implement and troubleshoot new functions and techniques that have been developed.
- May be required to travel up to two weeks at a time when conducting tests on a prototype at the customers’ facility during extended field trials.
This is a full time, Direct Hire opportunity.
The ideal candidate will have:
- BS in electrical engineering required
- Automation Studio (B&R required)
- Prior experience troubleshooting industrial control systems (B&R controllers)
- Experience with variable frequency drives, PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, process instrumentation, and 480VAC electrical control equipment is required.
- Experience with Allen-Bradley/Siemens PLCs, Industrial networks, and instrumentation is preferred.
- PLC/Motion control in B&R
- Software designer (Structured text)
- C++, .NET is a plus.
- SmarTeam or similar PLM
- QAD
- ISO 13849 and IEC 60204.
- NFPA 79
- Rockwell Automation: Safety Automation Builder
- SISTEMA Performance level calculator
- Detail oriented, organized, and capable of working with minimal supervision.
- Capable of working independently and as part of or lead a multi-disciplinary team.
- Prior experience working with packaging machines
- Capable of performing a risk assessment and carrying out a circuit safety reviews using Safety Automation builder and SISTEMA.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be able to communicate in English with regard to the essential functions of the position.
- Fluency in French is a plus.
Salary: $100K - $115K/year
