Description
JOB SUMMARY
The coordinator supports the auto and diesel faculty and students; organizes and maintains auto and diesel tools and equipment; prepares equipment, labs, and assists with any auto and diesel labs; helps train student employees in the auto and diesel lab; works closely with the auto and Diesel Program leads and may supervise live work and assist in the planning, improvement, operation, and maintenance of the labs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Guide and direct lab student workers in the proper techniques for consulting with students and dealing with mechanical problems.
  • Maintain lab equipment coordinates scheduling of students and teachers for the purpose of maintaining auto and diesel lab operations and activities.
  • Ensures that all lab equipment and tools are accessible and in working condition.
  • Performs inventory, checked in/out, and maintain various lab equipment's.
  • Ensures proper handling and use of lab equipment's.
  • Provides teaching assistant support for labs.
  • Support adjuncts, instructors and students.
  • Works with auto and diesel faculty to make decisions on the purchase required items, receives shipments and verifies contents, assembles, tests and installs new equipment; maintains, properly control and store of supplies and equipment.
  • Cleans and organize lab areas, clean lab prep area and labs.
  • Ensures that all equipment and supplies are stored in designated areas.
  • Collaborate with department lead to ensure routine inspection/testing of equipment.
  • Support lab instruction sessions as needed.
  • Maintain and document grades, and attendance.
  • Assists with purchasing supplies and equipment; monitors budget.
  • Work with industry partners to maintain a high-level internship program.
  • Maintain a positive and disciplined classroom and lab atmosphere.
Assists and oversees shop policy and procedures pertaining to safety, clean up, repairs, and vendor relations.
  • Ensure safe working conditions for students and instructors.
  • Keeps the condition of the shop and the materials within it in safe working order.
  • Maintains departmental equipment and participates in periodic inventory.
  • Provides for the security of facilities and instructional materials as appropriate.
  • Initiates purchase requisitions and work orders, as needed.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Ability to perform physical activities such as, but not limited to, lifting (up to 50 lbs. unassisted), bending, climbing, or standing for extended periods of time; ability to handle and safely dispose of chemicals, solutions, and biohazardous materials; experience in education at the secondary and/or postsecondary level; exceptional oral, written, organizational and interpersonal skills; ability to set priorities on own initiative and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Qualifications
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS
  • Associate degree in auto and/or diesel technology from a technical or vocational school.
  • 5 years of referenceable experience in the automotive and or diesel industry.
  • On-the-job training in the specific field of auto/ diesel technology.
  • Current T6 ASE certifications
  • Experience hydraulic systems as well as trouble shooting.
  • Communicate effectively with departmental faculty and staff through monthly meeting reports and other methods; daily communications with lab faculty for lab support.
  • Knowledge of computer systems, such as Mitchell 1 and Identifix.
  • Must have the ability to effectively provide instruction to student lab technicians.
  • Knowledge of how operate auto and diesel scan tools, a/c recovery machines.
  • Knowledge of tests that must be performed on automotive and diesel cars and trucks to maintain optimal function.
  • Must have excellent communication skills.
  • Must have excellent reading comprehension skills.

  • Must have strong organizational skills as well as effective time management abilities.

  • Vacation leave @ 80 hrs per year (pro-rated from hire date)
