Introduction
The Internal Audit Section of the Office of Inspector General (OIG) is hiring an Auditor Advanced. The OIG reports directly to the Department of Health Services (DHS) Secretary and is charged with protecting the taxpayers of Wisconsin by preventing and detecting fraud, abuse, and waste of public assistance programs such as Medicaid, FoodShare, WIC, and FamilyCare.

This position will be headquartered at 1 W. Wilson St in Madison. This position offers the option to work remotely 3 to 5 days per week with approval. This position may be required to report to an office or community location on occasion to complete certain tasks. This schedule may vary based on training or operational need.

Position Summary
As an Auditor - Advanced you will be responsible for the following duties:
  • Providing independent and objective risk assessment(s) including fraud assessment, analyses, appraisals and reviews of varied and highly complex departmental operations and programs.
  • Planning for and performing a broad range of financial, performance, operational, managerial and compliance reviews, including fraud investigations.
  • Conducting reviews in accordance with the responsibilities and authority described in the Wisconsin Department of Health Services Internal Audit Charter and in accordance with professional internal auditing and governmental auditing standards.
  • Developing appropriate audit/review criteria in a variety of circumstances, to independently apply these criteria in sensitive situations, and to exercise considerable judgment in rendering reasonable and fair conclusions.

Salary Information
The starting salary is between $35.00 and $43.00 per hour (approximately between $72,800 and $89,400 per year), depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits. A 12-month probationary period is required.
Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. This position is in pay schedule and range 07/02.
Job Details

For positions that do allow remote working flexibility, although residency in the State of WI is not required for permanent positions, it is not anticipated that working outside of WI or bordering cities will be allowed as positions may at times need to report to office locations in WI on short notice.
DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.
Employees must have access to secure high-speed internet for remote work option. Mileage reimbursement to the employee's headquarter location is not provided. Remote work flexibility will be discussed in more detail during the interview process.
Qualifications
Minimally qualified applicants will have all of the following:
  • Experience or training in accounting or auditing
  • Experience conducting audits and investigations.
  • Training or experience with Generally Accepted Auditing Standards or International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing.
  • Experience providing technical assistance on auditing or accounting issues.
Well-qualified applicants will also have one or more of the following:
  • Professional auditing designation (such as CPA, CIA, CISA, or CGPA).
  • Experience working with DHS programs and functions.
  • A Bachelor's degree or higher in accounting.
