Overview
Candidate will provide audiological assessments to patients of all ages as a member of a medical care team in a busy ENT practice and for a variety of community referral sources. Proficiencies include: age appropriate comprehensive hearing evaluations, immittance testing, otoacoustic emissions, auditory brainstem response testing, and perform and interpret VNG testing and treatment of BPPV using canalith repositioning maneuvers. Qualified candidates will also be proficient at interpreting diagnostic testing and making individualized recommendations and treatment plans as well as referring patients to appropriate community service providers as needed. Opportunities to provide mentoring/supervision to doctoral students are available.
Qualifications
Education and/or Other Requirements
  • Doctoral degree or Master's degree in Audiology.
  • Professional audiology license issued by State of Illinois
  • Certificate of Clinical Competency from ASHA.
  • National provider identifier (NPI)

Physical Demands
The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and move through an office environment. Other physical demands will include canalith repositioning maneuvers for patients with BPPV.

Mental Demands
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to work under pressure with multiple interruptions.
  • Ability to adhere to strict confidentiality requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Administers and interprets variety of tests including, but not limited to, air and bone conduction and speech reception and discrimination tests to determine type and degree of hearing impairment, site of damage and effects on comprehension and speech. Additional objective tests include impedance testing, auditory brainstem response testing for DMH referrals from the newborn hearing screening program, DPOAE and acoustic reflex threshold tests.
  • Administers and interprets VNG testing to primarily adult populations. Provide treatment for BPPV via canalith repositioning maneuvers.
  • Evaluates test results in relation to behavioral, social, educational, and medical information obtained from patients, families, teachers, Speech Pathologists, and other professionals to determine communication problems related to hearing disability.
  • Effectively involve and educate patient and caregivers in the plan of care.
  • Refers patient to Physician or Surgeon if medical treatment is determined necessary.
  • Perform all job duties in a safe manner with respect to personal safety of self and others.
  • Follow established policy and procedures for care, maintenance and operation of equipment.
  • Utilize time management skills and flexibility to provide optimal care within this fast pace environment.
  • Document evaluations and recommendations that relate to clinical findings in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrate evidence of patient/caregiver and team involvement/collaboration.
  • Serve as a preceptor/mentor for students.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
