Multinational financial services firm is currently seeking an Attorney as Negotiator/Advisor to join the Global Markets General Counsel division in its New York office. This role will serve as counsel within a group of lawyers and other professionals that support the firm's derivatives, repurchase transactions, and mortgage forwards businesses.
Responsibilities
- Structuring, drafting, and negotiating legal agreements
- Advising on legal, regulatory, and reputational issues arising from initiation to termination of counterparty trading relationships
- Working with colleagues in other units in connection with transactions and regulatory issues
- Overseeing outside counsel as needed and required
- Coordinating with Credit, Compliance, and other control groups
- Assisting with legal opinion work as needed
- Define, communicate. and coordinate the issues arising from matters assigned to the lawyer with the relevant business group, other departments and other counsel
- Manage the negotiation process to ensure timely execution of agreements in a controlled environment
- Advise Credit Risk Management, business and risk units, and other stakeholders throughout the firm on credit, business, and operations-related provisions of trading, security, and tri-party control agreements, as well as other associated documents
Requirements
- 7+ years negotiating ISDA master agreements and other related documents; experience negotiating and advising regularly on credit and security agreements
- Undergraduate degree required
- J.D. required
- Knowledge of insolvency law and secured transactions law is desirable
- Experience addressing legal issues involving sovereigns and public entities is a plus
- Excellent client service and internal coordination skills
- Strong analytical, drafting, and communication skills
- Ability to collaborate closely with stakeholders from different departments, colleagues, and within a team
