General Statement of Duties
The successful candidate for the Athletics Recreation Program Assistant position will work collaboratively with athletics staff to coordinate and implement year-round athletics programs. This position will be responsible for being the lead on coordinating and scheduling the use of artificial turf fields and providing scheduling and policy information to sports leagues participants. An employee in this position assists in all aspects of athletics service delivery from ball field maintenance to registration for recreation activities.

Salary Range: $23.51 - $29.19 Hourly
Examples of Duties Performed - Duties may include but are not limited to the following
- Coordination and scheduling of the artificial turf fields with the 4J and Bethel school districts, high school athletic directors and various youth sports organizations.
- Assists in the development of new athletics activities.
- Assists in the following: training temporary staff, assigning and developing schedules and providing input in hiring processes and performance evaluations.
- Exercises lead direction over temporary staff and/or volunteers.
- Provides patron assistance and information about recreation activates.
- Enforces recreation facility and field policies and regulations and resolves problems independently.
- Monitors equipment use.
- Assists with website development and marketing to promote and encourage participation in the athletics activities.
- Maintains a variety of program records and develops reports.
- Stays informed on relevant trends in program area.
- May occasionally lift 35 pounds related, but not limited to maintenance of facilities and fields.
- Ability to operate or learn to operate a variety of field maintenance power and hand tools.
- May be required to drive a City vehicle to different locations.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Experience:
- Three years’ experience in instruction in a recreational area related to assignment.
- Associate degree in the program area or a related field.
- Additional years of relevant experience may be counted in place of the education requirement.
- Valid Oregon driver's license[CO1] [MLA2] , or ability to obtain by date of hire; must pass driving records check and, if hired, maintain a driving record that meets the City's standard. Oregonlawrequiresthatanout-of-state license holder must obtain a valid Oregon license (with appropriate endorsements) within 30 days of becoming domiciled in the state (ORS 803.355).
- Current First Aid and CPR certification required within 30 days of hire.
The ideal candidate will have the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Knowledge of:
- The recreational needs of individuals in the program area addressed by the position.
- Water safety, swimming instruction, for some positions.
- First aid, CPR.
- Food handling practices, for some positions.
- Teach recreational skills and safety to instructors and facility users in the areas assigned.
- Develop and maintain schedules for a variety of recreation activities.
- Plan, implement, and evaluate recreational programs.
- Lead and direct the work of temporary, seasonal and volunteer staff.
- Develop and provide training and coaching to temporary staff.
- Work independently or in team situations.
- Promote interest and enthusiasm in recreation activities.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Perform routine maintenance on recreational equipment and facilities, such as water chemistry testing.
- Perform calmly in emergency situations and decide on appropriate measures.
- Physically perform the required duties.

What to Expect from our Selection Process: Applicants are screened based upon their relevant knowledge, abilities, skills, experience, and training. The selection process varies according to the position and can include such things as screening of supplemental questionnaires, written or skill tests, ability or fitness tests, interviews, and assessment processes. In addition, background investigations and records checks may be required.
