WORK YEAR: 52 week employee
SALARY: Per Non-Affiliated Staff Handbook- $60,000 to $79,495
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience directing a high school athletic program preferred.
  • Five years' experience as a head coach at the varsity level.
  • The ability to articulate the relationship between interscholastic athletics and academic achievement.
  • Knowledge of athletic programs and Michigan High School Athletic Association rules and regulations
  • Demonstrate evidence of systematic study of secondary school organization and curriculum as well as growth and development and an understanding of the secondary school student
  • Possess the ability to work effectively and cooperatively with other administrators
  • Possess a variety of school experiences with varied ethnic and racial groups
  • Possess a working knowledge of available instructional materials and latest teaching techniques
  • Possess experience in promoting gender equity in athletics
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of people
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus
  • The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
  • Experience with planning and implementation of programs for parent groups, staff, and community agencies, and promotes positive public and school-community relations.
  • Develops, monitors, implements and analyzes all aspects of athletic budget
  • Experience with computers, database management, game scheduling (schedule star/bigteams), assigning referees, and transportation.
  • Experience with seeking community and parent groups on matters pertaining to the vision of the athletic programs.
  • Experience with fundraising events and supervising sports personnel.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Direct and coordinate all activities of the Department of Athletics under the supervision of the building principals
  • Serve as advisor to the principals on athletic matters
  • Approve all athletic contests before they are contracted
  • Administer the athletic budget under the supervision of the building principal
  • Secure bids and purchase equipment for all sports
  • Be responsible for equipment and inventories for all sports
  • Organizes, directs and promotes an interscholastic athletic program that carries out the vision, and contributes to, the total school program, and will meet the goals of the district and the rules and regulations of the M.H.S.A.A.
  • Serve as the first level problem solver/arbitrator in disputes between coaches and athletes and coaches and parents
  • Coordinate staff and student recognition programs in athletics
  • Serve on school and district-wide committees and represent the school as otherwise may be directed
  • Coordinate and schedule athletic facility usage for practices and contests for all teams with building administration
  • Recruit, interview, and recommend for hire all candidates for coaching positions in coordination with the building principal
  • Promote good public relations with the public, news media, opponent schools, and community organizations
  • Be the District Advisor to the Booster club
  • Conducts seasonal coaches and parent meetings over rules, regulations and expectations that include but are not limited to the Student Code of Conduct, M.H.S.A.A., study table, eligibility and code violations.
  • Serve as a liaison with recruiters, leagues, and directors, Athletic Directors.
  • Acts as tournament manager for all league and tournament playoff activities that are assigned to the building
  • Serve as coordinator for athletic team transportation
  • Arrange for the care and reconditioning of athletic equipment and facilities
  • Obtain and employ officials and personnel for contests (police, game officials, timers, scorers, ticket sellers and takers, etc.)
  • Ability to work nights and weekends
