POSITION TITLE: Asst Director of CHE
COMPENSATION RANGE: 58,000.00 - 60,000.00 USD per year
EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION: Professional Administrative

Position Summary
This position serves to support the recruitment, retention and success of CHE/SSS participants. The Assistant Director oversees the CHE/SSS Advising program which is responsible for the identification and selection of new participants as well creating an advising program that supports each students individual growth and success from their entry into the University through their graduation. The Assistant Director is responsible for hiring, training and evaluating all Advising personnel. Because CHE/SSS receives federal funding support the CHE/SSS Assistant Director is responsible for maintaining advising data and documentation in compliance with federal U.S. Department of Education (TRIO) regulations.
Job Duties
I. Administration and Program Development 50%
• Responsible for the supervision of all advising personnel including: 2 CHE/SSS full-time academic advisors and peer academic advisors, including the Cumbres peer academic advisor
• Coordinate recruitment process for cohort selection with support from program Director and Advising team
• Work in collaboration with New Student Orientation, Office of Financial Aid, Office of the Registrar, and Academic Support & Advising staff to provide new CHE/SSS participants academic advising and financial literacy support during New Student Orientation
• Coordination of early registration process for all first and second year
• Assign caseloads to Academic Advisors and peer academic advisors
• Provide support to the Academic Advisors through professional development and evaluation with support of the CHE/SSS Director
• Develop written policy and procedure for the Advising program staff
• Conduct annual performance evaluations with professional advising staff, with oversight from project Director
• Supervise advising staff throughout summer identification and selection process
• Plan weekly advising team meetings
II. Academic Advising and Support 35 %
• Maintain a caseload of SSS students (primarily students facing academic difficulties and upper class students)
• Support the the implementation of all advising strategies utilizing Banner, Student Success
Collaborative and Student Access Database with specific attention to:
Individual Success Plans
Graduation Plan
Schedule Building and Registration
Scholastic Standards
Success Staffing
• Collaborate with Director of Advising within Academic Support & Advising, the Office of the
Registrar, New Student Orientation, Cumbres program, and cultural centers on University policy
changes as needed
• Serve as a liaison to UNC academic and student support departments and offices to meet CHE/SSS participant needs
• Collaborate with other TRiO programs to support CHE/SSS student needs
• Disseminate data from midterm grade system t program staff to help facilitate growth for CHE/SSS participants
III. Assessment and Evaluation 10 %
• Collaborate with Coordinator of Educational Technology and Assessment to ensure appropriate
assessments are administered to program participants, such as end-of-year program evaluation and other assessments as to determine effectiveness and future programmatic needs
• Provide monthly reports to the CHE/SSS Director related to participants not responding to outreach, and completing year end reports for the advising unit
• Manage and use Student Access database in collaboration with the Coordinator of Educational
Technology and Assessment to meet grant compliance guidelines and inform practices within the SSS program
• Coordinate all data gathering with relation to advising services and manage accuracy of case notes and contacts with program participants
• Utilize data to make appropriate programming decisions for advising services in collaboration with the program Director
• Understand and implement all grant objectives for the SSS project
• Assist with the gathering of data for the U. S. Department of Education Annual Performance Report (APR)
IV. Curriculum and Instruction 5 %
• Participate on curriculum committee including English Instructor, Coordinator of Educational
Technology & Assess, Literacy Coordinator, and UNIV 101 & LIB 150 instructors to coordinate
academic services for CHE/SSS participants and to inform student progress and success
• Collaborate with Coordinator of Educational Technology and Assessment to consider graduate school planning and development needs of CHE/SSS students that can be delivered workshop series
• Coordinate with the University College Scheduler to ensure accurate and timely scheduling and evaluation of CHE cohort classes
• Collaborate with CHE instructional team to ensure CHE cohort classes reflect a model of interdisciplinary development and instruction.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree plus 4 years of experience in a higher educational setting. Supervision of professional and student staff, and an understanding of best practices and strategies in effectively supervising staff. Understanding of the challenges faced by first generation and underrepresented populations in higher education is required.
Appropriate Educational Degree: Higher Education/Student Personnel, Educational Leadership, Education, Counseling, Youth Development, Psychology, Sociology, Social Service, or Community Development related degree.
