Associate Vice Chancellor and ExecutiveDirector of Facilities and Services

The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign seeks nominationsand applications for the position of Associate Vice Chancellor and ExecutiveDirector of Facilities and Services. The Associate Vice Chancellor and ExecutiveDirector of Facilities and Services has direct operationaland administrative responsibility for supporting the academic mission of thecampus through securing and maintaining the viability and integrity of thephysical campus. Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Administration andOperations, the Associate Vice Chancellor has overall responsibility for theunit's budget, human resource management, and all other aspects of itsoperation. Ten reporting divisions include Capital Programs; BuildingMaintenance and Grounds, Customer Relations and Communications, Engineering andConstruction Services; Human Resources, Diversity and Strategy, Safety andCompliance, Shared Administrative Services, Sustainability, Transportation andBuilding Services and Utilities and Energy Services and Services is the largestadministrative unit on campus with a state and ICR budget of $85 million, autilities enterprise and conservation budget of $93 million, and a staff ofapproximately 1,100. Facilities and Services supports a physical plant of morethan 13 million net assignable square feet in 506 university district buildingscovering 3.6 square miles.
The ideal candidate will have the ability to lead a highlyprofessional staff and understand the unique role that Facilities and Servicesplays in a complex and diverse university environment. The Associate Vice Chancellor and Executive Director collaborates with universityleadership in developing a long-term strategic view of the physical environmentof campus, including the campus master plan. Because the unit servesstakeholders across and beyond the university, it is essential that the successful candidate be a superior relationship builderwho has personal resonance with the intellectual environment of a majorresearch university, embodied in its faculty, staff, and students. Additionally,they must be a strong advocate for diversity and inclusion, demonstrated by asuccessful record of implementation of and support for diversity and inclusioninitiatives inworkforce recruitment and retention, in vendor selection, and communityengagement. Likewise, the Associate ViceChancellor and Executive Director isexpected to take a leading role in the university's efforts to realize itsambitious goal to steward environmental resources in a sustainable manner. Toaccomplish the unit's mission, the Associate Vice Chancellor worksclosely with the Associate Chancellor/Vice Provost for Finance, Budget and CapitalResources on budget-related decisions. For large capital delivery projects witha value of $250,000 or greater) the successful incumbent also works with theVice President and Chief Financial Officer and Assistant Vice President forCapital Programs and Utility Services at the University System.
Founded in 1867, the University is one ofthe nation's original 37 public land-grant institutions. An internationally acclaimed comprehensivepublic research university, it is the largest university in the University ofIllinois System and a member of the Big Ten, American Association ofUniversities and other notable peer organizations. Current student enrollmentis diverse and dynamic with a total enrollment of nearly 55,600. The studentbody is composed of more than 35,120 undergraduates and approximately 20,476graduate and professional students. Theuniversity is a traditional residential campus with nearly 10,500 studentsliving in campus facilities, while others live in private housing in closeproximity. The University communityalso includes a diverse group of 12,000 faculty and staff. The campus is located in centralIllinois within the cities of Champaign and Urbana and works closely withpublic safety units to provide a safe environment for students, staff andvisitors.
Requirements for the position include a bachelor's degree, witha master's degree strongly preferred, preferably in engineering, architecture,landscape architecture, planning, or business administration. A minimum of 10years of experience in large, diversified, and complex college, university, orcomparable organizations is required, with increasing responsibilities in themanagement of Facilities and Services; substantial college or universityexperience is preferred. Also required, a record of excellent communication,principled leadership, and personal integrity, as well as a history of advocacyfor diversity and inclusion in the workplace, and an enthusiastic commitment tosupporting the research, teaching, and service missions of the university.
This is a full-time, twelve-month academic professionalposition. Salary is open and is dependent on qualifications and experience. Theposition is available as soon as possible after the closing date.
