Associate Specialist, Chemical Engineering Research & Development (CERD) Unit Operations Lab
The Chemical Engineering Research & Development (CERD) department is seeking a motivated and technically focused individual to become an integral member of the Unit Operations Lab team.
The Unit Operations Lab is an intermediate scale facility that provides support and expertise for current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs) and non-GMP experiments at an intermediate scale (4 – 100 liters, up to 5 kg API) to generate data for process development, scale-up evaluation, and new technology investigations.

Maintain and set up equipment for experimentation including process analytical technologies. Provide input to ensure efficient, safe, and compliant process setups in support of the Best Science at First Filing.
Schedule lab activities and provide oversight of scientists who utilize the lab.
Conduct dry milling experiments.
Learn and share best practices from Project Teams, Operations, and Prep lab staff to ensure effective scaleup/scale-down of reactions, separations, crystallizations, drying, and milling.
Interact with Quality groups to support audits, qualify equipment and maintain readiness to perform GMP work.
Participate in incident root cause analysis, including documentation, reporting, and action item execution.
Support Equipment Development and Maintenance (EDM) activities in both the Unit Operations Lab and the Small Scale Organics (SSO) Pilot Plant. Examples of EDM opportunities are equipment reliability initiatives, lab improvement projects, and new technology implementation in support of development pipeline programs.
Maintain and troubleshoot equipment, interface with equipment maintenance teams, and manage asset disposition.
Assist with executing the Unit Operations Lab capital plan with a focus on procuring new equipment and technologies to enhance lab capabilities and capacity.
Manage general lab organization including equipment, supplies, and consumables.
Position Qualifications:
Education Minimum Requirement:
Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry or other relevant field of study.
Required Experience and Skills:
Knowledge of safe chemical handling procedures.
A compliance mindset with knowledge of quality and safety requirements.
Familiarity with Change Management processes and principles.
Highly effective communication and collaboration skills.
Good organizational, interpersonal, writing, and time management skills.
Preferred Experience and Skills:
Experience performing lab-based research/process development in a Chemical Engineering-related area.
Direct experience with pharmaceutical drug development.
Familiarity with concepts and application of cGMP and Good Documentation Practices (GDPs) during pharmaceutical development and production.
Experience with Chemical Engineering-related technology development.

U.S. Hybrid Work Model
Effective September 5, 2023, employees in office-based positions in the U.S. will be working a Hybrid work consisting of three total days on-site per week, generally Tuesday, Wednesday and either Monday or Thursday, although the specific days may vary by site or organization, with Friday designated as a remote-working day, unless business critical tasks require an on-site presence. Final determinations with respect to salary will take into account a number of factors, which may include, but not be limited to the primary work location and the chosen candidate’s relevant skills, experience, and education.
Expected salary range:
