Job description

We are seeking a multidisciplinary scientist to join the Chemical Immunology team within the Technology and Therapeutic Platforms (TTP) department to aid in the immune-peptidomics platform and perform proof of concept experiments to advance novel therapeutic platforms focusing on redirecting immunological responses. The successful candidate will apply their skills in immunology, cell biology, biochemistry, chemical biology, and/or analytical techniques to demonstrate new mechanisms and modalities in targeting disease. This person will leverage these skills as a member of the cross-functional team to support AbbVie's drug discovery pipeline while interacting with a broad range of Drug Discovery and Development scientists to collectively build a leadership position in the Chemical Immunology space. The successful candidate will provide key contributions to advance therapeutic area programs in Immunology and Oncology, as well as contribute to the discovery of Emerging Therapeutics.

Responsibilities:

  • Execute laboratory experiments to demonstrate experimental proof of concept for novel therapeutic modalities.
  • Prepare samples from cells and tissues for multiple downstream analyses such as mass spectrometry, flow cytometry, molecular biology readouts, or biochemical assays.
  • Cell culture including passaging, maintenance, and pharmacological treatment.
  • Tissue processing for downstream analysis.
  • Immunopurification/enrichment of proteins for downstream assays.
  • Maintain expertise in laboratory techniques and passionately innovate, optimize, and apply new experimental protocols.
  • Effectively interpret and communicate results to colleagues.
  • Collaborate across multiple projects.

Qualifications:
Position will be hired based on level of experience.

Basic:

  • Associate Scientist II - Bachelor's Degree or equivalent education with typically 3 years of experience, or Master's Degree or equivalent education
  • Scientist I or II - Bachelor's Degree or equivalent education with typically 5-7 years of experience, or Master's Degree or equivalent education with typically 2-5 years of experience.
  • A strong research background in immunology, cellular/molecular biology, chemical biology, cancer biology, or related field.
  • Expert at basic biochemical techniques including sterile technique and adherent & suspension cell culture.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Can-do attitude/team-oriented/open to tackling new challenges.
  • High attention to detail, creativity in problem-solving, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Flexibility to deal with changing timelines, shifting work priorities, and evolving regulatory/industry requirements.

Preferred:

  • Experience performing cell treatments with small molecules or biologics.
  • Experience with cellular assays, co-cultures, and functional assays.
  • Experience with tissue processing workflows and/or immunoprecipitation.
  • Enrichment of proteins/RNA/DNA from cells and tissues, and downstream sample handling for bio-analytical measurements.
  • Experience with advanced biochemical assays.
  • Experience with flow cytometry.
  • Experience preparing samples for downstream applications such as RNA-seq and/or mass-spectrometry based proteomics.
