Position Summary
Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $85,000.00-$130,000.00 annually
The Associate Provost of Engagement & Inclusive Teaching and Learning (EITL) is a senior-level position reporting directly to the provost and serving as a member of the President's Cabinet. The Associate Provost champions the values of diversity, equity, belonging, and justice by actively engaging faculty, staff, and students across the five campuses of the university. The Associate Provost advances the institution's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) by providing strategic leadership, guidance, and expertise. The Associate Provost helps to further the university's commitment by developing, implementing, and articulating a clear and compelling vision of diversity, equity, belonging, and justice within the commitments of the Mennonite Brethren Confession of Faith and the FPU Idea. The position also includes a 25% teaching load in a relevant academic department. FPU is a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) with a majority first-generation students and the Associate Provost will help to position the institution as an exemplar HIS.
Essential Functions
Culture:

Duties:
  1. Institutional diversity, equity, and belonging strategic planning.
    1. In collaboration with senior leaders, faculty, and campus partners develop and implement a comprehensive DEI strategic plan aligned with the university's mission, values, and aspirations.
    2. Engage and collaborate with senior leadership, faculty, staff, students, and external partners to drive DEI initiatives.
    3. Actively participates on the University Diversity Committee (UDC).
  • Culturally inclusive curriculum development
    1. Work with academic departments to infuse culturally inclusive and diverse perspectives into the curriculum.
    2. Support faculty in creating an inclusive and equitable learning environment for all students.
    3. Develop appropriate orientation and faculty resource and training models.
  • Capacity building for institutional transformation
    1. Provide professional development and training opportunities to increase awareness, knowledge and skill related to DEI paying particular attention to Hispanic/Latino students and first-generation students.
    2. Foster a culture of accountability for DEI goals, regularly assessing and reporting on progress.
    3. Pursue and secure grant funding for emerging opportunities for faculty and student resourcing and support.
  • Engagement with senior staff and organizational leadership
    1. Collaborate with senior staff and academic leaders to integrate DEI principles into all aspects of the institution, including strategic planning, policies, and decision-making processes.
    2. Serve as a resource and advisor to the President's Cabinet and other leadership groups on DEI matters.
  • Improving campus climate and culture
    1. Evaluate and assess campus climate, identifying areas for improvement and implementing initiatives to promote a more inclusive and equitable environment.
    2. Establish mechanisms for collecting feedback and ensuring transparency and responsiveness to the concerns of all community members.
  • Teaching and academic engagement
    1. Teach courses in a relevant academic department contributing to the university's academic mission.
    2. Infuse DEI concepts into the curriculum and promote and train for Inclusive Teaching and co-curricular practices.
  • Complete tasks timely with work that is comprehensive, complete, and accurate
  • Communicates clearly, listens attentively, and seeks to understand others
  • Collaborates productively with colleagues of varying skillset
  • Other job duties as assigned

  • Qualifications
    • Master's degree required; Doctorate preferred.
    • Demonstrated expertise in diversity, equity, and inclusion with a minimum five years of leadership experience in DEI roles.
    • Strong knowledge of best practices and current trends in DEI work within higher education from a Christian and biblical worldview.
    • Understanding of and strong commitment to the U.S. MB Confession of Faith, the Fresno Pacific Idea, and the Diversity Rationale.
    • Effective communication and collaboration skills with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders in advocating and articulating a Christ-centered approach to diversity.
    • Knowledge of how to use various forms of data (institutional and national) to benchmark, assess, plan, and promote accountability.
    • A reputation for cultivating healthy interpersonal relationships and building trust.
    • Working knowledge of the various laws, regulations and policies related to equity and diversity.
    • Successful experience in designing or delivering professional development for faculty and staff.
    • Understanding of the culture of higher education including governance, university-wide strategic planning, multiple and competing goals, the nature of campus politics and the needs of different constituencies.
    • Teaching experience in higher education and a commitment to innovative pedagogical practices.

    Environmental Conditions:
    • Indoors in a normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, fumes, vibrations, and temperature changes at least eighty percent (80%) of the time.
    • Frequent computer use at a workstation, up to eight hours per day.
    • Frequently work at a fast pace with unscheduled interruptions.
    • Drive personal or University vehicles to appointments.
    • Public contact position requiring professional apparel, personal hygiene, and grooming.

    Physical Demands:
    • This position typically functions indoors in an office environment with light to moderate noise associated with business office equipment. The position may involve travel for meetings and events.
    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: remain in a stationary position 80 % of the time, be able to move about inside the office to access file cabinets/office machinery etc., operate a computer and keyboard and other office productivity machinery such as calculators/copy machines/printers. The employee is occasionally required to position self to reach items on the floor and in high cabinetry.
    • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Employee must be able to communicate with others to exchange information including both over the telephone and in-person communication with callers and community members and be able to read a computer screen and paper documents.
