Compensation:Compensation Type:ExemptEmployment Type:RegularScheduled Weekly Hours:40Grade:E08Department:InstructionPosition SummaryThe primary responsibility of the Director of the Associate Degree Nursing Program is to direct formal classroom and laboratory instruction, oversee clinical learning experiences, and be responsible for the development, implementation, evaluation, administration, and organization of the associate degree nursing
program.Duties & Responsibilities
  • At least 80% of the director’s assignments will be administrative. Additional administrative time will be given when preparing for accreditation, curriculum revision, and other such activities.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of the program’s vision, mission, purpose, graduate student learning outcomes, and curriculum. Oversee the development and implementation of a Systematic Plan for Program Evaluation based on ACEN standards and criteria.
  • Coordinate ACEN accreditation activities including preparation of self-study documents and site visit requirements.
  • Serve as a role model to both faculty and students in professional and personal interactions.
  • Prepare the classroom and clinical schedule each semester and assign appropriate faculty.
  • Assume leadership in the selection of textbooks and the coordination of book adoptions for individual classes.
  • Prepare the program budget on an annual basis with input from the faculty. Present the budget to the Chair of the College of Nursing & Health Sciences with justifications for increases in budget.
  • Maintain records and controls to assure that the nursing program operates within established budget limits.
  • Coordinate all purchase orders within the nursing program.
  • Prepare the annual report to the New Mexico Board of Nursing within established guidelines.
  • Ascertain the maintenance of nursing student records.
  • Certify the attendance of faculty and staff within the ADN program, approving faculty/staff requests to be absent and arrange for substitutes in case of faculty absence from the classroom.
  • The director will supervise and evaluate all full and part-time faculty teaching in the ADN program to include simulation laboratory faculty and staff.
  • Conduct annual faculty and staff evaluations within the ADN program.
  • Take an active role in the recruitment, retention, and placement of students within the nursing program in coordination with student services.
  • Conduct comprehensive student advisement.
  • Counsel students concerning academic achievement, absences, and tardiness which threatens satisfactory student progress.
  • Maintain an inventory of supplies and equipment within the nursing program. Prepare materials for the college catalog and other publications ensuring an accurate representation of the nursing program.
  • Serve as a liaison between the nursing program and institution personnel and the public.
  • Participate in the screening and interviewing process for program faculty and staff making recommendations for employment within procedural guidelines. Inform the Chair of program needs, concerns, changes, or irregularities which warrant attention.
  • Instruct assigned classes in accordance with the stated philosophy and objectives of the ADN program.
  • Participate in nursing scholarship and professional development activities as defined by the program’s definition of scholarship.
  • Participate in college, public, and community service.
  • Attend and support activities of the College such as scheduled and special faculty and departmental meetings, assigned committee meetings, and academic functions such as workshops, seminars, orientations, planning sessions, and convocations which require faculty participation.
  • Conduct bi-annual Nursing Community Advisory Board meetings and solicit input from program stakeholders regarding suggestions for program improvement.
  • Participate in commencement day activities, including the Nursing Pinning Ceremony.
  • Be familiar with college policies and procedures and abide by them. Assume any special duties assigned by the Dean, Provost, or President.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Master’s Degree in Nursing required.

Experience in nursing practice, nursing education, curriculum, and nursing administration.

Current, unencumbered RN license in the state of New Mexico or compact state.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug screen. Current, unencumbered RN license in the state of New Mexico or compact state. Ability to meet institutional requirements for participation in clinical practicums.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrated leadership experience in the nursing profession.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Personable and courteous in working relationships with colleagues, students, and the public.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, faculty, college administration, and hospital personnel and administrators.
  • Ability to work with a wide range of individuals (students, staff, faculty, public) and with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Teaching experience.
  • Ability to effectively provide a classroom atmosphere that is conducive to learning. Ability to address multiple learning styles in classroom teaching. Experience with a variety of teaching resources.
  • Ability to maintain clinical competence in area of teaching.
  • Good computer software skills – Microsoft Office, email and electronic calendar.
  • Ability to introduce computer technology into the classroom and laboratory and willing to explore new course delivery methods.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to attend to details and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work as a team member.
  • Ability to work and make decisions with minimal supervision.
  • Disciplined and able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to role model professional nursing behaviors.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Work is normally performed in a classroom, clinical setting, and in an office setting.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
  • No or very limited physical effort required.
