Position Summary
The position of Associate Planner is entry-level for land planning work but requires knowledge of administrative tasks and working with the public. This position applies the town codes of Gypsum in an impartial and professional manner through the land planning process. The Associate Planner often works closely with the public on a regular basis to provide customer service on planning issues and requires professional planning work of easy to moderate difficulty. Public speaking and presentations of certain permits to the Town of Gypsum Planning Commission is also required. Duties support the objectives determined by the Community Development Director, Assistant Town Manager, Town Manager, and Town Council.

Essential Functions
- Performs routine office tasks in designated program areas, including data entry, file management, copying, answering telephone, and responding to emails.
- Develops and maintains automated tracking systems, hard copy files and records.
- Research and compiles information on a variety of planning issues from multiple resources.
- Attends after-hours public meetings, assisting other planning staff as appropriate.
- Reviews permit applications to assure compliance with requirements such as use, bulk, placement, and parking requirements.
- Provides technical assistance and information to staff and the public in the administration of specific planning-related programs and ordinances.
- Conduct the review and processing of minor development applications such as sign permits, conditional use permits, mobile vending, and special use permits.
- Meet with contractors, business owners, developers, and homeowners to explain minor zoning codes and permitting requirements.
- Adhere to safety policies, observing and correcting safety hazards, and participating in safety-related functions and training.
- Assist with actions necessary to correct deficiencies or violations of regulations.
- Maintain a positive attitude to help provide a pleasant and productive atmosphere for co-workers, board members and citizens.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Community Development Director.
