- Responsible for developing and implementing the strategic plan for Scout Motors' worldwide trademark portfolio
- Serve as the primary subject matter expert for Scout Motors' communications, brand and marketing teams, and provide legal and strategic advice on external and internal communications
- Assist business leaders in developing, implementing and managing a brand licensing strategy, including evaluating licensees and drafting and negotiating license and partnership agreements
- Manage Scout Motors' trademark portfolio, including overseeing filings and ongoing prosecution
- Conduct and analyze trademark searches, and provide strategic advice on risk, registrability and strength of proposed marks
- Manage global IP enforcement, including cease and desist letters, TTAB disputes, and online takedowns
- Develop and roll out trademark/brand protection guidelines and training for the business
- Advise marketing and communications leaders on advertising and consumer protection laws (e.g., CAN-SPAM and TCPA), including development of guidelines and policies and review of marketing collateral and external communications for potential issues
- Draft and negotiate sponsorship and event-related agreements
Location & Travel Expectations: The responsibilities of this role require attendance at in-person meetings and events regularly. The role will be based out of the Scout Motors location in Tysons, Virginia. Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout Motors colleagues in person and be able to travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time

- A Juris Doctorate (JD) and license to practice in good standing with at least one state bar
- Minimum 12 years experience as a practicing trademark attorney, in-house experience preferred
- Enthusiasm for practicing trademark law in an extremely fast-paced, start-up environment
- Ability to provide both legal and strategic advice to Scout Motors' executives and leaders
- Superb oral and written communication skills with the ability to explain legal concepts to non-attorneys on a regular basis
- Excellent legal judgment, business acumen, practical, and common-sense skills to understand the needs of a start-up
- Ability to prioritize work and manage deadlines
- Ability to manage uncertainty and novelty and to thrive in a fast-paced start-up environment

This is a full-time, exempt position eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. The salary range listed represents the maximum and minimum starting base pay for this position as of the time of posting. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent.
Initial base salary range = $200,000 - $230,000
