Associate General Counsel

The Associate General Counsel is responsible for overseeing all legal, regulatory, compliance, and risk management matters. This multifaceted role involves crafting and implementing legal strategies to protect the company's interests, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations, managing contractual relationships, mitigating risks, and providing guidance on corporate governance.

Pay Range: Based on Experience

This position can be in St. Louis, MO or Lenexa, KS.

What will you be doing?

• Provides guidance and counsel to all levels of executive staff on business transactions and initiatives.
• Identifies and analyzes legal issues, drafts key documents, presents clear recommendations to top management, and assures legal compliance.
• Assists or represents the organization in business negotiations.
• Reviews changes to law and regulations and advises management about any impact to the business.
• Ensures that company communications, contracts, documents, filings and press releases undergo a legal review.
• May engage and coordinate with outside counsel for certain matters.
• Develop and implement the company's legal strategy to protect and advance its interests while ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
• Review, draft, and negotiate a variety of contracts and agreements, including client contracts, vendor agreements, and employment contracts.
• Identify and assess potential legal and business risks and develop strategies to mitigate and manage these risks effectively.
• Advise on corporate governance issues and ensure that the company complies with all governance requirements and best practices.
• Responsible for insurance and risk governance to include coverage, guidance and negotiations.

What are we looking for?

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with the state bar.

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in a legal leadership role, preferably within the logistics sector.
• Proven expertise in legal, regulatory, compliance, and risk management matters.
• Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations relevant to the company's operations.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Strong leadership abilities with a track record of managing legal teams and external counsel.
• Strong ethical values and a commitment to promoting a culture of compliance within the organization.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree or 4 years previous operational/client facing leadership experience.
• Process improvement and/or change management experience.
• Experience in growing, managing, and inspiring internal teams; strong leadership and organizational skills must be complemented by relationship building management style.
• Experience in working with senior level leadership.
• Strong client focused background, with clear and substantive speaking, writing and presentation skills.
• Intermediate experience in a Windows computer system environment and Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
• Ability to use Excel functions and other tools to efficiently perform work.
• Experience in high volume processing or call center environment is a plus, but not required.
