SalaryWHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
We're seeking an Associate General Counsel with a whatever-it-takes approach to join our team! In this full-time role, you'll be responsible for and involved in a wide range of legal and corporate matters.
WHAT WE EXPECT FROM YOU:
- Advising and providing guidance on compliance matters specific to the real estate industry, such as Fair Housing Act matters, landlord/tenant matters, and local regulatory compliance matters.
- Advising and providing guidance on legal matters affecting operation of a large company, such as employment matters, corporate governance matters, and investor relation maters.
- Developing policies and procedures designed to enhance compliance and support the company's business and strategic objectives, and ensuring such policies and procedures are followed.
- Appearing in court in Maryland and Virginia on behalf of Southern Management and its affiliates, including for landlord/tenant matters.
- Assisting in the coordination of outside litigation counsel and determining litigation strategy.
- Negotiating and drafting various contractual agreements, such as commercial leases and vendor contracts.
- Keeping informed of industry-specific regulations and ensuring that appropriate risk management strategies are in place.
- Assume responsibility for special projects assigned from time to time by the General Counsel.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Manager.
- Contribute to team/company engagement efforts.
- Comply with all Southern Management's policies and procedures.

- Proven organizational, analytical, and negotiation skills with exceptional attention to detail.
Requirements:
- 5+ years relevant experience in an in-house or law firm environment.
- Real estate industry experience preferred.
- Local government affairs experience a plus.
- Membership in or eligibility for admission to the Maryland Bar and/or Virginia Bar (including Corporate Counsel admission).
