Description:

The Nebraska Department of Administrative Services has an excellent opportunity for a collaborative attorney with passion for public service and an energetic commitment to maximizing government efficiency and effectiveness. In this position, you will be working closely with the General Counsel on a broad range of legal matters, including: procurement initiatives, employment law, immigration, real estate, policy development, contract development, and public information.
Job Duties:
Counseling clients on a daily basis. Drafting, reviewing, and revising contracts, assisting with EEOC claims and employee grievances. Researching and interpreting statutes, case law, and the administrative code, preparing external and internal legal correspondence, and other documents. Working collaboratively with the agency and other entities to address legal issues or concerns. Other duties as assigned within the scope of classification.
Requirements / Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Three years of experience as an attorney practicing law and providing legal services such as preparing and trying cases, advising clients, and/or interpreting laws or administrative policies.
Legal Requirements: In accordance with Section 7-101, Nebraska Revised, Reissued Statutes of l943, incumbents in this class must be admitted to the Nebraska Bar.
Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience as in-house counsel. Intermediate to advanced understanding of business processes as it relates to state government services.
Other: Regular and reliable attendance is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Graduation from an ABA accredited law school. Current license to practice law in Nebraska or the ability to obtain a license to practice law in Nebraska within three months of hire. Excellent legal writing skills and verbal communication skills, strong critical thinking skills, ability to persuade and collaborate with others, interpret and apply statutes and case law, conduct legal research and summarize findings.
