POSITION: Associate Director of Internal Communications

HIRING RATE: $85,023/annually

THE POSITION:

The Associate Director of Internal Communications will serve as the critical bridge between the various departments at LAFH. Working within the Communications team and closely with Human Resources and Executive Leadership, this position will deliver key organizational information to LAFH staff through a variety of formats to ensure all our employees are informed, engaged, and set up for success. The Associate Director of Internal Communications will translate organizational priorities into compelling internal multi-channel communications driven by both the LAFH brand and our mission of ending homelessness. A successful candidate will effectively transform a range of subject matter - from workplace policies to programmatic updates to internal events and other announcements – into engaging communications that effectively reach employees across the organization.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

CONTENT STRATEGY, DEVELOPMENT & EXECUTION

  • Works with departments across the organization to develop content for emails, Intranet, printed flyers, and other communications channels as needed to clearly convey information about staff news such as recruitment events, annual open enrollment communications, staff parties, programmatic and administrative updates, and other organization-wide news
  • Evaluates existing channels for appropriate internal communication and identify existing gaps
  • Offers strategic counsel regarding new approaches to staff communications and opportunities to improve processes
  • Provides recommendations for the best platforms for distribution of content (e.g. Intranet, printed flyers, email, etc.) to best engage staff
  • Oversee the development of LAFH Intranet project, including working with staff from all departments to maintain up-to-date content
  • Works with Director of Communications and Marketing Manager to ensure all content disseminated to LAFH staff is on-brand, on-message, engaging, and accurate
  • Collaborate with the Director of Communications and Director of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion to develop parameters around agency’s internal crisis communications response
  • Create monthly video projects to be shared internally, along with providing video and photography support as needed

INTRA-DEPARTMENT COLLABORATION

  • Establishes and maintains a coalition of staff representatives from departments across the organization to inform the implementation of an intra-organizational communications program
  • Works proactively across the organization to ensure cross-organizational alignment in all communications, including reviewing and delivering recommendations and communications products to Human Resources, Executive Leadership, and other departments as needed

DIVERSITY, EQUITY, & INCLUSION COMMUNICATIONS

  • Participates in all monthly planning committees for all observation months observed by the organization (e.g. Pride Month, AAPI Heritage Month) and provides recommendations for weekly staff presentations, celebrations, and other activities
  • Develops monthly emails to be sent to all staff highlighting important observances for the coming month and connecting them back to our work to end homelessness

OTHER

  • Stays current on latest trends and functionality for internal content development and culture-building communications
  • Additional tasks, projects, and responsibilities as directed by supervisor

WHAT YOU'RE SKILLED AT:

  • In-depth understanding of Internal Communications and proven ability to convey internally developed content in a compelling manner
  • Knowledgeable about social media platforms and proficient in design tools like Canva, Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills with a focus on fostering organizational culture
  • Strong project management skills, adept at handling multiple projects simultaneously
  • Experience with organization-wide Intranets, preferably using Sharepoint tools
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and capable of quick relationship cultivation across the organization
  • Interest in homelessness and housing policy, demonstrating a commitment to social justice and its influence on the homelessness sector
  • Ability to work with diverse populations, including individuals with high acuity; bilingual skills are beneficial but not required.

OTHER:

  • Maintains and executes confidential information according to HIPAA standards
  • Obtains and maintains CPR/First Aid Certification
  • Able to pass post-offer Tuberculosis (TB) clearances
  • Travel is a regular duty for this position and is required 10% of the time
  • Use of a personal vehicle to travel between worksites and other locations is required
  • Maintain a valid Driver’s License and auto insurance in good standing
  • Able to work a 9/80 work schedule
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed

WHAT YOU'VE ACCOMPLISHED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, or related field. Equivalent experience can substitute for educational requirement.
  • Five plus (5+) years of experience in Internal Communications, strategic communications, or related field (nonprofit experience a plus)
