JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Under the direction of the Assistant Dean for Admissions in the College of Medicine, the Associate Director oversees recruitment efforts and pathway/pipeline programming to ensure a diverse and highly qualified class of medical students within the Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree program. This position leads strategic recruitment initiatives, manages the admission process, and implements training and programming to support the College of Medicine's goals.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborates with the Assistant Dean for Admissions to strategically plan and execute recruitment events including coordinating campus visits, virtual and in-person fairs, and organizing the annual Second Look visit to showcase the College of Medicine to prospective students.
- Provides expert counsel and guidance to potential applicants, offering clear and comprehensive information regarding admissions requirements for the M.D. program and other specialized programs within the College.
- Serves as the primary contact for the Medical School Admissions Requirements (MSAR) system through AAMC and manages the processing of 2500 applications annually through the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS).
- Assists with the scheduling and logistics of interview days for 500 applicants.
- Assists with the selection and admission of incoming MD, MD/PhD, and transfer students to the College of Medicine.
- Collaborates with Offices of Student Affairs and Advancement to identify student awards and scholarship opportunities.
- Manages information technology needs, website development, recruitment, and marketing materials and handbooks.
- Generates comprehensive year-end statistical reports summarizing admissions data and trends for distribution to administration.
- Serves as a liaison to premedical advisors at various colleges/universities to ensure awareness of admissions standards, program requirements, and special offerings.
- Leads all efforts for current pathway programming including Guaranteed Interview Agreement (GIA) programs and Learning and Engagement for Aspiring Physicians (LEAP).
- Manages New Student Orientation, in collaboration with the Assistant Dean for Admissions, the Office of Student Affairs, and the Office of Medical Education.
- Creates and implements training programs and workshops for admissions staff including new Committee on Admissions members, student ambassadors, and student recruiters.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree. (Master's Degree preferred). (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
EXPERIENCE: Six (6) years of professional experience in higher education student affairs, preferably at a medical school.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Strong knowledge of health professions student development and academic programming.
Working knowledge of university and college academic policies, financial aid policies, academic records, medical school entrance procedures, and available student resources.
Proficient in Microsoft Office products -Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication, time and project management skills.
Ability to work with diverse populations.
Demonstrated awareness and sensitivity to socio-ethnic and cultural communication styles.
Demonstrate a thorough understanding of medical education issues as they apply to the recruitment and selection of candidates.
WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally be required to work evenings and weekends. May require occasional overnight travel.
