Position Overview:
A rare and exciting opportunity with a mining and chemical processing facility located 50 miles south of Las Vegas, NV. MP Materials owns and operates Mountain Pass, the only integrated Rare Earth mining and processing site in North America. Rare Earths power the modern economy. They are essential components in a wide range of industrial, clean energy and information technology applications. The MP Materials facilities are currently undergoing major and rapid expansion to meet growing global demand.
This position is responsible for purchasing and negotiating materials, equipment, services and supplies from suppliers. The Buyer assists departments in the evaluation of goods and services as needed; ensures that internal customer’s expectations and requirements are met; and resolves conflicts concerning materials or services. The Buyer is familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within procurement field and relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals to perform a variety of tasks. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required. Attention to detail is critical.Position Responsibilities:
- Follow corporate procurement guidelines and policies.
- Sourcing Assistance: Assist in the execution of strategic sourcing strategies by contributing to market research, supplier identification, and negotiation activities.
- Supplier Interaction: Engage with potential suppliers, aiding in building and maintaining relationships while negotiating terms and conditions.
- Market Awareness: Stay informed about market trends and pricing factors impacting procurement, addressing potential disruptions.
- Cost Management Support: Collaborate on initiatives to reduce procurement costs through negotiation, supplier evaluation, and cost analysis.
- Quality Assurance Collaboration: Work closely with operations and quality teams to ensure purchased materials meet required standards.
- Compliance Awareness: Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations while identifying and mitigating supply chain risks.
- Cross-Functional Cooperation: Collaborate with other departments to align procurement strategies with company goals.
- Environmental Considerations: Consider sustainability factors in procurement decisions.
- Technology Utilization: Learn and leverage procurement and supply chain technology tools (e.g., SAP) to streamline processes.
- Continuous Improvement: Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the procurement function.
- Ethical Compliance: Ensure all procurement activities adhere to ethical standards and legal requirements.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Experience with SAP is a plus.
- Exposure to industrial, mining, or chemical processing environments is advantageous.
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, Business, or related field
- Min. 2-4 years’ related experience required.
- 6-8 years’ experience in leu of a degree
- Exposure to the mining industry is beneficial.
- Developing skills in supplier relationship management, supply chain risk management, cost analysis, and reduction.
- Familiarity with basic data analytics for supporting decision-making.
- Willingness to learn and grow in a dynamic procurement environment.
